We are slowly making our way to saving to buy our first home, me and my boyfriend are still quite young but we are both proud how far we have both come, for me personally I have never found much value in buying stuff, we live very minimally to the point that some family almost look uncomfortable when they come in because our home to them is way to empty, but we just love it and it’s so simple to manage and clean, I am on a no buy challenge but to a even greater extent, we are challenging ourselves to see how little we can spend so we can start paying down debt and saving. We know when the time is right our perfect home will reveal itself and it’s so much fun and inspiring to be able to get closer and closer to that goal quicker and living financially free. When my husband and I were first married, we went 2 years with no living room furniture. We had an old cared table and 4 chairs for our kitchen set. Our mattress was on the floor and we had our clothes stacked on the floor in piles. We were saving up for our home. Fast forward. We’ve been consumer debt free for decades now. We have a 3,000sf home that never had a mortgage on it , on 5 acres which we wrote a check for. Peace of mind. 😀

Great video, you are such a role model. My husband and I were frugal and no matter how little we had we lived on less and managed to prosper and always make a nice home for our family. Many years ago he got a new job and a huge increase in pay. I remember us sitting around all evening talking about the things we would do with that money. In the light of day we decided that we had a good life how it was and he had the money just go into the 401K. You can't miss what you never had. Now that we are retired old people we look back and realize it was the most important decision we ever made and are blessed by it in our old age. Just one choice or change can make a difference later in your life.

Just try to diversify your portfolio to other market sectors, that way your investment is balanced and you don’t get to make so much losses.

Marissa you are to be applauded and commended on the success you have after enduring hard times. You’re so right about looking poor but being rich. The people that are so worried about appearances are the people that go broke. I don’t see any point in trying to impress people. I was never the type of person willing to sacrifice my finances in order to look rich. My husband and I started our lives off together being more concerned about buying a home and paying off debt. My husband was even able to retire early as we always lived beneath our means. Sacrifice now so that you can relax later.🥰

Wonderful, simple, no frills advice. Thankyou. Im from New Zealand and our housing costs are out of control. One of the most crucial steps to our goal of becoming financially free is moving to a cheaper city. Its been a challenging road but we bought a house one third the cost of the previous city. We now have a manageable mortgage which allows us to invest while living frugally. We have chickens, fruit trees, grow gardens, cook at home, buy good second hand clothes, etc. financial freedom as you've indicated is a varied approach.

One thing that helped us and allowed my husband to retire at 62, was to pay off our mortgage early. Every month I would make the paymnet and always pay a little extra towards the principle. Even if it was as little as $25-$50. Also, we never purchased a house that increased our mortgage and never took out seconds or equity loans for wants. My siblings all took out seconds for home improvements and still have mortgages in their 60's and 70's.
