Great videos Nige in what appears to be really poor light. We opted for Beckfoot for outward leg and I went to Armathwaite for the return leg where we had some lovely sunlight.

Arrived at Clitheroe on the way round to Preston at least 15 minutes up on the schedule. Scarborough Castle on the back didn't seem to be doing anything to help. EFFORTLESS from Tangmere yet again....makes the travails of BIL recently all the more surprising.😮😮😮😮

Thanks Brian, was running early into Hellifield and was able to leave early and picked up another eight minutes so must have had a little help but not taking anything away from Tangmere who put in a great performance all day, surprised BIL didn’t have diesel assistance on both the previous outings, cheers 👍

Is it just me? Whenever I see/hear a L.P. and it's Tangmere, she comes across as unbeatably feisty! Who can ever deny the spirit of steam? Incidentally, the disciples of Saint Greta probably aren't aware that the shadows of water vapour always look like smoke when the light is failing.

I have never heard these spam cans at speed so was surprised at how quiet Tangmere was. As the engine is unmodified could this be as a result of its chain driven valve gear? Thanks for a good set of videos.

Dear old Tangmere, she never fails to impress with her smoke production, sadly (some say) responsible for her very own climate change capsule on every trip. Can they not find a solution? Or maybe they don't want to? Surely they still don't blame it on second rate coal. 🤔

Probably is the coal quality and the fireman trying to keep a good boiler pressure by over firing the fire to get as much heat through the boiler tubes as possible.The down side is you get incomplete combustion of the coal resulting in the black smoke,the coal has probably got a high tar content as well.

There is no way 34067 Tangmere is pulling those coaches and that converted class 47 or 57 on the back without being pushed by it, that is not a steam special.

It’s the Northern Belle Luxury dining train which is advertised as a steam special David as normally it’s diesel tnt and is always assisted when there’s a steam loco on the front due to the weight and running of the air conditioning etc so it is a steam special with it being different from there usual N/ Belle tours.
