@6:09 you used a pick to remove the seal. I never remove seals this way. I use a pick like you do, but I carefully dig in from the outer race side of the seal. You're less likely to damage the delicate "flap" on the seal that spins on the inner race. Nice job on the video! As you can see by the comments, you helped a lot of people.

I had a problem with my NX derailleur and it was all due to the lack of lubrication on those 4 points you mention first. Saw this after I was done, but definitely wanna leave the comment here because I was thinking of changing the shifter, the cable, and almost the whole system due to a MINIMUM maintenance problem. I believe it has to do with the fact that when washing your bike that's the LAST place you think of keeping an eye on. Awesome video I'll be doing that TLC soon!

My shifter cable seems to pull itself slightly off the cable pulley on the larger cogs. Does this have to do with the cable tension being too high or maybe the pulley isn’t greased well enough to roll with the cable pull?

I finally performed this service today. Swapped out the pulleys from my GX AXS and enter the XX1 AXS ceramic pulleys. This video was super helpful, especially the part where you talk about that weird one off washer sans shoulder. Thank you!

I just realized i got scammed. SRAM XX1 pulley kit advertises as ceramic ball bearings. But it turns out there’s only ONE ceramic ball out of the total 14 ball bearings in the kit. The rest are steel balls. What???
@joecanuck3751
@joecanuck3751 Жыл бұрын
@@GokkunGuru "The single hard ceramic ball keeps the steel raceway free from foreign particles in dusty and dirty environments. It smoothes the raceways which increases service life under extremely contaminated conditions. I also have the same set as you. Chain and rear cassette has been replaced but now the derailleur is giving trouble with very poor shifting up and down. Going to swop in a newer derailleur for a test run. If it doesn't help think I will replace with the XT derailleur. Seen many videos with this set up. Our mechanic agrees. He believes Shimano is tops over SRAM. Enjoy your Spark. Greetings from sunny South Africa.

My drivetrain maintenance frequency really depends on how much wet weather riding I do, but generally speaking, I have to do this at least a few times each season. This is especially important if you’re using wet chain lube. That stuff just gunks up everything. I basically need to degrease and clean the chain and entire chain path after every wet muddy ride. Sometimes the jockey wheels are so bad , you can’t even see the cogs and you have to pick the caked in sludge out with a knife.

I got an interesting one. I'm on Eagle GX. On a 2019 Specialized Enduro. The old x frame bikes. And my rear triangle's upper arm by the casstte has been damaged extensively by the chain. Chain slap on it is crazy. I've wrapped it since and that's helped. But I can't believe something that to occurs. Other wise this is my first time on Sram gearing and I am a fan. Nice video as always. I’ve got an AXS X01, no problems at all with the clutch, I’ve had to replace the clutch protector once, cheap replacement, cable derailleurs should have it also. I tend to clean and regrease the jockey wheel bearings often, either Shimano Premium or Motorex Bike Grease 2000 are great choices. I’d love to know the tightening torque for the bolt of the spring for the cage, I took it off some weeks ago to clean and regrease the internals, I torqued it to 4Nm which I think that is fine, but I forgot to put a mark on the bolt to know the factory torque spec 🤦🏻‍♂️ Regards!

I'm using a NX 11speed on my emtb,, but next time it's weared out i want to change the boss to XD so I can upgrade to GX cassette and in time GX axs .. ANYWAYS NOT WHAT I WAS INTENDED TO SAY LOL I have very good experience using gun oil on my chains Ballistol it's called it's also prevent corrosion and protects leather rubber wood etc but after about 25 hour's of bicycling in dirty environment like the city it turns black so then just wipe off the oil on the sides of the chain with a face mask which is what I found those masks good for (nothing is so useless that it's not good for anything) just do it lightly you're not trying to remove it all just the dirty excessive layer and only on the sides so don't use a degreaser or anything and it's looks clear and clean again. I used a lot of lubes and oils im a bicycle deliveryman and loves mountain biking (Norway) here it's often a little bit of mountain biking included in my job mostly when taking Short cuts but this is a Mountainous country so.... I broken a lot of chains but I have never broken a chain again after splising it by pin locking method when using Ballistol gun oil on it... it's Also okay to get opened bike locks who gotten corrosive or washed by the rain so the lock oils are leaked out or etc.. it's better than WD-40 you need a lot less of it..but WD-40 is better As a degreaser..i haven't tried yet but I think gun oils like Ballistol is very good for the seals on damper forks and also for wiping the stanchions i Guess it will eliminate friction I'm actually sure about it... have any one else tried Ballistol or other similar gun oils for their bicycle?

Would upgrading the pulley wheels of the NX to the GX or X01 pulley wheels make a notable difference in performance? Do you think there is a notable difference in performance between the GX vs X01? Starting with a full NX bike and was kind of thinking of trying to get a season in with it and then upgrading to X01 or XT but wondering if with things like the B-Bolt kit and pulley wheel upgrade if a lot of the performance issues with the NX derailleur could be alleviated. Would a NX RD with the X01 pulley wheel and B-Bolt upgrade (maybe that cable bushing upgrade too) outperform GX? If I did this I would likely retain my NX crank but switch to a X01 chain and GX cassette. Just wondering if the NX can be upgraded to perform similarly or better than GX (but heavier).

Using an older XX 10x2 system, no clutch. Could a newer style rear mech with clutch be used with the x0 10s rear shifter without changing the chain and the cassette or would I need new everything since my drivetrain is not eagle?
@HollyBoni
@HollyBoni 3 жыл бұрын
Newer style 11 and 12spd SRAM derailleurs are 1x specific. You can get older 10spd SRAM rear derailleurs that have a clutch and they're meant for a 2x. Clutches were first introduced in the 10spd days.
@SuperJerot
@SuperJerot 3 жыл бұрын
@@HollyBoni Yup, I saw that there is a GX 10x2. I was just wondering if it would work with my x0 shifter or did something change in the standards in the meantime. Asking out of ignorance, how does a 1x rear mech know if you are running a 2x if the cassette is adequate?
@HollyBoni
@HollyBoni 3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperJerot No, that GX is quite an old derailleur. Any 10spd SRAM rear derailleur will work. These newer 1x RDs are designed differently. The upper pulley has a bunch of offset, this makes them work better with wider ratio cassettes, but a shift at the front would completely screw up your b-gap. Also, the cages can be quite short, so for example a SRAM 1x11 rear derailleur might not have enough capacity for a 2x10 (if it worked properly with a 2x to begin with).

@@HollyBoni My xx is to a fair bit old, although works like a charm. It's only missing a clutch, so probably not worth while buying a "worse" mech just for the clutch.

Didn't you ever take it apart to see if clutch really is not adjustable? I've been told by a mechanic that it's not adjustable.

@@LoveMTB that's silly. BOX components very easy to adjust and remove clutch. Buy the bushings wea rout in few tens of km, atleast first one did, I will see how long the warranty replacement does, I wonder if they use bad bushings or if they use strong bushings and it happens. If so brass bushings would be better I guess. I know higher end Sram use brass bushings. And you can the parellogram apart like Box.

about the Sram clutch... Inwould say they are weak. All the time when a friend from austria sends me clips from rides with his friends you can tell by the noise who is running Sram LoL

They aren't great, SRAM clutch isn't serviceable either, I service my xtr clutch once a year on my yearly bike service and have no issues, ever, plus you can tune the clutch tension on Shimano depending on your riding conditions, riding Austrian Alps compared to peaslake in England is a huge difference, believe me, I know 👍

@@threefeetpete2010 The clutch needs this special white grease right? My RD M5120 came with almost none of it and it creaks when it moves. I opened the clutch cover and took the clutch out and the noises are gone. I guess i have to get that grease right?
