When I first played this fight, I laughed at how much Fang was shocked at the arrival of the heroes, yet it was definitely the hardest fight ever for me. Secret: In the second phase, you can actually leave the arena if you're playing as Tails or Knuckles, since there are no barriers around the carriage, and explore the train (despite its small lack of detail).

Man, this fight. Going into it completely blind, this fight hit me by surprise. I mean, not too much by surprise, as STJr did something similar with Metal Sonic in 2.0 But as soon as that yellow text appeared at the bottom after the fight.. Well, if it's scrap you want, it's a scrap you'll get!" Fang fires, Sonic dodges out of the way at trademark speeds. As Sonic taunts Fang, he's struck. Tails has appeared from his hiding spot! "So ya brought company, huh? I've got some crowd pleasers!" Fang hops around the car, dropping bombs as he goes. One knocks into Sonic, but before it can blow up it's punched into Fang. Knuckles appears! "They say three's a crowd, so we need a little breathing room!" Fang drops bombs and blows up the car walls! Fang starts firing off his gun at Knuckles, who punches one right back. Hopping away, Fang almost gets a clean shot on Tails, but gets hit by Sonic. This goes on for a while... Until eventually, Fang is left prone on the floor of the cart, Sonic and the gang standing over him. "No, you can't turn me in! I..." Fang begins to beg for mercy. Knuckles doesn't let it happen. "You _blew up a train car!"_ "Tell ya what, I got exclusive intel! I know how to get into that new spaceship Eggman's got!" Sonic is skeptical, but figures he's got nothing to lose." "Fine. Help us out. But if you double-cross us, you'll be crossing past prison bars." FANG JOINS THE PARTY!

Because Jun Senoue handled that theme and his Genesis tune are IMO an acquired taste. I will say between these three, this is the better take. Triple Trouble 16 bit sounds MUCH better but it plays too safe by just being a remix of Fang's theme (but if you just wanted that, good). Superstars just took part of its theme when Fang got a new boss theme and gave it the Sonic 4 treatment which honestly, is overhated since it's not as bad as fans make it out to be IMHO despite these tunes being the equivalent of that "Wrong Notes" meme people tend to make. It's one of those tunes that needs a Genesis remix.

If there's one game I could replay over but go in completely blind, it'd be this one because Fang. I was a MASSIVE Fang fan ever since I warmed up to him out back in 2005 through Sonic the Fighters on Gems Collection and was perpetually left perplexed and disappointed that he didn't appear in games anymore. :( Upon stumbling across the SRB2 + Kart communities back in 2019, I recall coming across a video shortly after 2.2 released that showcased this boss fight, as well as my mans being an unlockable character! Seeing his appearance here handled with so much attention and care, let alone him making an appearance to begin with, absolutely blew my mind and was the green-light to finally sink my teeth into this game! Granted, I've known about SRB2 for years, and if Fang weren't in it, I'd likely have never gotten around to it (which is a damn shame, as SRB2 is a damn fine game on its own merits), so I'm grateful he finally let me to giving this incredible project my due attention. That said, I cannot even imagine the unprecedented levels of hype that'd explode throughout my entire being if I encountered this entire sequence, compounded with him being playable shortly after winning the battle, fully blind. A slight bummer, but hey, now I got another fantastic fan project to play around with!

fun fact: if you play as fang and enter this boss fight, the "boss" fang won't enter normally. he enters through a warp and appears gray, which is most likely a callback to sonic the fighters where eggman would clone you when two people chose the same character for the fight.

Huh. Funny how some of the all time best Sonic fan games (And some of the best Sonic games in general tbh) just so happened to feature best boi. (This, Triple Trouble 16 Bit, X-treme remake, Galactic most likely although it’s hard to tell since it isn’t finished by the time of writting this, etc.) It’s almost as if everything Fang touches instantly turns into gold… *and God dammit I wouldn’t have it any other way.*

Catching the train outward, you take refuge in an enclosed car full of a bunch of Eggman's junk. Right when you feel comfy enough to sit down, something starts moving! out jumps Fang "Knack" The Sniper! Armed with his popper gun, he aims to take out out by knocking you off the train car!! Beware, he also carries plenty of explosives!

I just got joke boss vibes from Fang the first time I fought him, like Gilgamesh in a way. Just for the way he comically bounces around the arena like Tigger, occasionally laughs at you, and how he gets owned by a signpost upon escaping. Also, this theme is rather silly and cartoonish compared to the normal boss music
