Well, I am an IISER-TVM alumni. Reg. residential campus - it gives good exposure to the research environment and helps to make students more independent. This helps to build communication among students, combined studies, discussions. The campus is usually live 24*7. Later when you are a scientist, this helps collaborate, increase confidence. Even a first-year student could go to a research lab and work. I also had difficulties in the beginning, but started enjoying it later, and helped me a lot. So please do not shy out joining IISER due to this reason. You are right, the main aim of an institute like IISER is to train future researchers and scientists. Its not a job-oriented course. And being a scientist is not a job, its a passion.
