Excellent and divine start to Vinayagar Chaturthi. It’s the first melakarta ragam which I presume was a pillayar suzhi in the melakartha system. Lord Ganesha removes human misery. RaGa sisters remove the gloom in mankind’s lives by their most mellifluous renditions

Kanakangi is the first melakartha in the 72 melakarta scheme. Arohanam : S R1 G1 M1 P D1 N1 S. Avarohanam : S N1 D1 P M1 G1 R1 S. This rAgam needs to be handled like a very precious and a very fragile object. The ease with which you two dear sisters handle it is amazing. Your body language is so friendly, loving and engaging. You supplement, complement and compliment each other. It is a pleasure to watch you sing, just as it is a pleasure to hear you sing. The song appears to be a typical Dhikshitar kruti. It has his mudra 'guru guha' in the middle and again 'thyAgarAja' at the end. Is it really a composition by Saint Thyagaraja and not by Dhikshitar? If so, surprises never cease springing on us in the Ocean Of Music. Happy vinAyaka chathurthi. Thank you for making this day a happy day.

Rave alert 😂 … although apparently the #1 melakarta, I unabashedly admit that I heard this raga today when I came across another lovely song and was smitten with this raga and the other composition I heard and as I researched more to explore, this song from my most fave musicians showed up and then cherry on top there’s this lovely alapana to go with it, which makes one crave for more! Ms Ranjani’s expressions during the alapana mirrors other listeners’ as well! I can’t even describe the feelings, as always so emotional! I am unwell at this time and I think if I keep listening to this it would help me feel better! Thanks so much for sharing this (truly a public service). really interesting listening for R1 and D1, those swaras are used so subtly. My first intuition looking at the scale this raga is based in is to play it in a kind of bluesy way. Hard for my western ear to hear much else, but this is so unique! Really shows how important the way you approach using the scales is to creating a specific sound. Also insane how technical their singing is and so in sync! beautiful, great vibe
