21:42 - He wash the rice before cooking it because you want to remove the starch from it (or any foreign debris or dirt/dust). If you don't, the starch will causes the rice to clump together or get a gummy texture when you cook it. Generally you want to wash all uncooked rice until you dont get that cloudy water affect and the water run's clear, then you know you removed most of the starch. There are exceptions though, like if you are making a risotto, no rinsing is necessary as the extra starch creates the essential creamy texture for it.

Harald It must now be not so unusual for you to get recognized by locals While travelling in south or south east Asia! Your contribution to this region is immense And we are thankful!
@HaraldBaldr4 жыл бұрын
Here's the funny thing. In places like Sri Lanka and India, people often stop to say hello regardless if they know you or not. So it's not that different from before too be honest. So yes it's not that unusual. It happened on the first trip as well
@akashgupta19804 жыл бұрын
Ok @harald so that is something we call xenophile. People here are definitely attracted toward foreigners and all the custom and belief they bring along. So yea akash approves! Ps- reply from creators are rare, so it's always good when somebody does. If someday you travel to north India Remember the name- thanks!

Beautiful and interesting vlog with Sri Lankan Chef. Lovely and enjoyed thoroughly. Also, the man at the fish market selling fish and giving you information speaks very good english and well. Interestingly and calmly, guiding and giving you info of the nearby what's happening. So nice and sweet of him. Thanks for him too and making and covering a nice vlog. Cheers. The food looked awesome and of course the taste too.

@ Walter, yes Ceylon cinnamon is the only kind good for diabetics. If you consume Chinese or South American cinnamon for a long period of time ,it causes LIVER damage. Ceylon is the way to go :-).
