My grandparents also were fluent in English and my maternal grandfather worked for a British company in Ceylon. I picked up slang whilst growing up in London and when I spoke it at home, my father would correct my English grammar and said I must speak the Queen's English and read a quality newspaper (e.g. The Times) and only watch educational programmes like the BBC News and documentaries... @@nakkadu if I were you I would cancel the holiday and get a refund now as this global pandemic is so uncertain...people are losing their jobs, companies are facing liquidation and countries are going to go through a massive economic recession! Before that happens you should claim your money back as if this goes on until the end of the year and industries go bust then it may be too late to get your money back! There are no commercial flights, airports are virtually closed and hotels not operating. Sri Lanka depends heavily on travel, tourism and hospitality.... but when all this is over then you should certainly go to Sri Lanka...the island and it's people will always be there and welcome you and when lockdown is lifted people will be in a hurry to get back to normal so you should still be able to book your holiday at short notice...I very much doubt that you will face anywhere being fully booked as the next thing is that people will not have any money to go on holiday as they have not been able to earn...people will not be able to afford luxuries for awhile...I'm hating it here in the UK... 10 people have died who were family and friends of people I know! Today the death toll stands at 14,000 in the UK... whereas there have been only 7 reported deaths in the whole of Sri Lanka to date!
