There is a big difference. Ray was a great enthusiast of music and had encyclopedic knowledge in it (later he became a prolific composer). Feluda, on the other hand didn't have much knowledge of music or musical instruments. It is difficult to think Satyajit Ray without his music but I cam always think Feluda as a non-musical man🤣 Lastly, Ray was married at a very early age (that's also a love marriage, opposing relative's opinion). Till 39, Feluda is cellibate with NO love interest🤣.

Ray laughed and replied that people were telling that feluda sketch looks more like Soumitra only. But yeah, I agree, sense of observation, intelligence, general knowledge, leadership and sense of humour; there is a lot of Ray present in Feluda. I feel, Ray was a self-confessed fan of Arthur Conan Doyle and idolised Holmes and Prof Challenger from a very young age. Holmes, blended with mind and personality of young Ray has given birth of Feluda and Prof Shonku is another projection of veteran Ray with Prof Challeger.

Bengal is not Feluda. Feluda died when Satyajit Ray passed away. When you say the discussion on Feluda is Bengal you are exposing total bankruptcy of intellectual ability. Satyajit Ray reinvented Rabindranath Bibhutibhushan and showed extreme respect to them. But he equally took contemporary Tarashanksr Shankar Sunil Ganguly Ramaoada Roy's work and adapted them. Your statement shows you want to live 30 years ago. Enough of celebrating Vivekananda Subhash Bose. Time has come to move up and critically examining everybody. Feluda was Satyajit Ray's alter ego. Nobody can interpret Feluda. And what we get is caricature and absolute nonsense. Today's Bengali cinema has no such talent barring a few who just does not matter. They are so ordinary they do not know how to define a commercial art 2which can breaks the boundary of class of people. Bengali cinema of yester years reached the urban and rural community. There is no commercial cinema today which is equally acceptable by entire crowd. In cinema communication happens remotely. It needs huge intellectual ability to invent that in the commercial space. For example what antic of Rajanikanth would be acceptable to mass crowd is extremely intellectual innovation. Bengali cinema is following what was acceptable 50 years back and people like you who are living in the well are saying wah wah. But the world has moved on. Feluda is a historical phenomenon of golden age nothing new and absolutely obsolete. Better you understand otherwise some last hope (who made good cinema but nobody watches like Rajloxmi O Srikanto or Robibar) will not be made.

The common hindi audience needs to understand the cultural nuances of Bengal to grasp the original Feluda. In fact the name "Feluda" has a Bengali touch to it. Its not just Bengali, if you watch a Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi etc movies, you will understand the story but you may not understand the inside jokes or subtle expressions that makes a movie or actor special. To make Feluda global, you need to re-write the whole thing keeping in mind the hindi audience. Regarding merchandise, I don't think Govt. has anything to do with merchandise. The production house needs to take initiative. And off course Satyajit Ray museum can be created, but again we have a Gandhi museum in Delhi and the only visitors are couples and UPSC aspirants who go there to study.

I agree with Tota on the "lost in translation" part. Comparison with Byomkesh by Srijit is not valid. Byomkesh is a complex character written for late teens and adults while Feluda series was written for the 10-16 demographic. Today's kids of that age have lost that innocence to appreciate a women free story-line that is watered down to serve to kids of an era 30-50 years back. Even Srijit made 'Ray' recently and the original stories made for that demographic were 'substantially' altered to serve to a pan-Indian public. They were above average story-telling, but the enjoyment that was etched reading the original was missing while watching 'Ray'. In contrast, watching the Golden Fortress (Sonar Kella) was more enjoyable than reading the book which was already a master level work.

I too prefer Byomkesh over Feluda. But it has to be accepted that Byomkesh is for mature audience and has a psychological touch to it whereas Feluda is mostly for children and teenage audience. Having said that both of the characters have their own charm and speciality.

It's not exactly "laziness" per se, Mr. Roy, If "Laziness" had genuinely been the issue, we wouldn't have had hundreds of thousands of Bengalee youth attempting "Sorkaari-Chakri" exams for years and years together at a stretch, nor would we have several million more leaving their home state and comfort zones in pursuit of greener pastures across the globe. What truly is the problem at hand should be diagnosed as "Mediocrity". It's Mediocrity that has plagued Bengalees for several decades now, that we have so nonchalantly taken for granted. As long as us Bengalees continue to accept mediocrity and its low-hanging fruits, all the incumbent troubles that the Bengali society has to deal with day in and day out shall continue to persist, while we keep blaming governments, various political parties and administrative systems only to no avail. If we really want the "Perception" of Bengalees and Bengal to turn around, we ourselves have to do something to make the change happen - the ball shall start rolling by itself then. And trust me, there is a LOT LOT, so MUCH to do in order to improve our perception/image given the current state of affairs. Mere blame games and "KISSU HOBENA" rants can only get us this far.

This is why i have stopped watching Bollywood movies.... We are people who made the Hindi/Bollywood industry superior.....as if only Bollywood stars are celebrities in this country not the regional ones.... India has many types of people, language and culture etc... But still we are together and respect each other.... We should encourage this thing rather than encouraging one language or culture as superior or linking language.... This is shameful... We have to learn it otherwise only few bunch of people would be getting all the benefits in each sector....Yes i don't like the think that we Bengalis are still stuck in the past.... We should encourage new innovative thinking in Bengal.... People are thinking for future not only past.... We Bengalis should follow the trend...
