Maand is a feisty raga, popular in North India and well-known for lighter pieces in the South. It is delightful to listener and performer alike. It brings forth the mood of romance, combined with cheer and warmth. Maand is often spiced up with foreign notes to make it “misra” Maand, like “chai” becomes “masala chai.” The notes that feature in the conventional Maand raga include Sadja, Suddha Rishabha, Antara Gandhara, Suddha Madhyama, Pancama, Chatusruti Dhaivata, and Kakali Nishada, and not in that order. In fact, it is the zigzag patterns in this raga that give rise to a feeling that only can be compared with enjoying a swing on a trapeze. The popular classical pieces in this raga include “Janaki Manoharam” by Mysore Vasudevachar, “Ramanai Bhajithal” of Papanasam Sivan and “Vaanathin Meethu”(arutpa of Ramalinga Swami). “Maasila nilave”, sung beautifully by TMS and noted actress Bhanumathy, is a favourite of many a music lover across ages. From the film “Ambikapathy” (starring Sivaji Ganesan, music G. Ramanathan), the high point in this song is the flowery sangati at “kanne...maanilam kondaduthe”. It calls for an encore each time. Here Sriranjani presented a beautiful Virutham.. Nanmayum Selvamum in her superb tone ! The papanasam kriti - " Raamanai bhajitthal " is dung melodiously and soulfully.

There is a lecdem by Dr. Balamurali Krishna on voice control/ culture. She is a living demonstration of all that he has mentioned in that lecture. Sri. Santhanagopalan has prepared her so well to perfection. She reminds the Bhagavad Gita sloka (10:41) yad yad vibhütimat sattvaµ çrîmad ürjitam eva vå tat tad evåvagaccha tvaµ mama tejo’µça sambhavam [Whatever exists that is wonderful, beautiful or glorious, know that it has manifest from but a particle of My power]. Though I can't make out the inner meaning of the song, being not good at the language, but the melodious voice culture is well appreciated. She has bright future. Hats Off.

Ah! She has brought out the beauty of Mand fully! Such fine and minute embellishments! Listening in a loop! HATS OFF TO MADRASANA for such a top class recording...able to hear every nuance! Unable to get out...and it's just 3:50 Mins! But we will be able to enjoy this only if we overcome her SHelvam and SHidaindhu. Wonder why they do that :(

Lovely voice and splendid singing. Don't know why it is 'Shi' instead of 'Si' with all these newgen singers. 'Shidainthu' sounds egregious

Because many of us say “sha” instead of “sa” when we speak Tamizh at home. It’s doshai for us and not dosay. When I sing Yenna tavam… I say “sheydanai” and not “seidanai.” It’s not a fad. It’s just an accent.
@rkgroup7895 Жыл бұрын
@@dhenukita that exactly is my point... . we also speak tamizh at home.. the proper trichy/tanjore diction. we never say "avar shonnaar.." its "avar sonnaar" (he said)... well you rightly said.. its an 'accent'. Agree
