I own the Chief Vintage from the "Why we won't sell Indians" video. Almost 4 years and over 24,000 miles later, the bike has been flawless. I've ridden it from Massachusetts to West Virginia and every state in between with no issues whatsoever .

@@ronnierushing700 Dont' mind at all. It was a gear position switch. The digital readout became slow when changing gears up or down. Also, the factory was concerned that it would show neutral when it was actually in gear. The dealer fixed mine under warranty before the factory knew it was a more widespread problem. I subsequently received the improved switch with the recall.

Harley equivalent !?!? Nah they don't have one, the Indian handles way better, brakes better, feels more comfortable to be on and thanks to excellent suspension tuning on the front and that Fox shock on the back it absolutely eats the Harley on the rougher roads and bumpy corners. Now I'm talking apples for apples, one touring bike against another, all of Harley's touring bikes have at best two and a half inches of rear suspension travel whilst the Indian has four and a half. As a long time Road King owner who has traversed Australia more than once, I can tell you that one ride on the Indian blew my mind. If you ride both and still buy a Harley, it's because you're buying into a brand, that's it, nothing more, there is no way your Harley is better.

A few months ago I test rode a Chief Dark Horse. It does ride pretty smooth, and suspension is very nice and soft. The con for me: I'm 180cm long (5.9) and the shifter is too much forward. I'm used to heel-toe shifting on my Intruder, and that would be a great feature on this motorcycle. The current shifter would have felt much nicer if I would have longer legs or even bigger feet. My advice: If you like the looks and have the money, go for it!

I love Harley’s cus they’re what got me into motorcycles, but I haven’t been on one that feels good. Every Indian I’ve been on felt smooth and much more controllable than any Harley. Not knocking em, but Indian specs their bikes a lot better for new riders and experienced. They price theirs more for a younger audience too. You get a much better bike for the price. In any class. And quality control and reliability.. omg. Why do you think Harley offers their warranties on used bikes? You buy one and if you haven’t visited the shop in less than 5k you’re lucky. I still love Harley’s, but being young and broke, and still a somewhat new rider (3 years) Indians my go to brand.

@@pythonman8103 the speed sensor on the front wheel isn't protected very well and has had to be replaced twice due to small rocks hitting it when riding down gravel roads, the gear indicator switch gets clogged up with belt shavings and will show the wrong gear and can actually start in gear if your not careful, happened to me once lol (Indian has a recall with new designed switch I just have not done it yet), and the ABS will sometimes work and sometimes not work and has been like that for a long time.The heated grips are not very warm at all and are basically useless( this is probably my fault because I didn't install correctly or I might need to update the pcm). Stock oem battery SUCKS and is a hit or miss with how long it will last, I replaced it with a higher CCA battery and is a major difference in starting as well. For those of us who don't know what turquoise is, I'd bet you've probably never been to Eastern Oklahoma (Indian Territory). Turquoise is a rock that many of us Indians use as jewelry. Not everyone sees the beauty in it. Turquoise was put on that Indian for a reason. Either the previous owner or the artist knew some Indian History.

Went and looked at new Indians yesterday. Love the new bikes and they feel nice but $28K is a bit steep for a bike. The Challenger looked like the Road Glide and fixed fairings throw me off big time. Chieftain was Street Glide comparable and I did see a Dark Horse on the floor.

Talking bout the handle bar size I’ve been having a hard time finding a cell phone mount that fits, will the phone mount u always recommend fit this bike? Also while you have in your stable I wanna pout a sissy bar or stick on back to strap a bag when I go to work instead of carrying on my back. Can you recommend one for the dark horse. 🤗

Actually the direct Harley counterpart would be the Softail Slim. Striped down larger cruiser with floorboards. Similar performance but the Harley is $2,500 less expensive.
@I05tream

I would say the Deluxe is more the counterpart, except the Chief are on the same frame/suspsension/etc as the Springfield, depending on the year.

@@I05tream The Slim and DeLux are basically the same bike but t he DeLux has more shinny bits. The DeLux seems to compare to the Vintage but no bags. The Slim is the same solo seat blacked out cruiser.

Until you upgrade the engine to match a stock Indian, then the Harley is way more expensive.
@haroldobrien4322
@haroldobrien4322 4 жыл бұрын
@@gregp1409 Not so. First, the Indian has about an 8% advantage in power according to each's web site. A stage one upgrade would erase that advantage and it wouldn't cost anywhere near $2,500. Not to mention the Indian is is over 100 pounds heavier so does it really even have an advantage.
