Yup, my dad used to own a 1936 Indian chief back in the days of my youth. Back when the rival of the big bikes was about Indian and that other bike that every one thinks is the greatest thing on two wheels. Dad's belief was a simple one when it came to ownership. He used to say that there were two kinds of bikers. The guys that owned Indians and the guys that wished they had bought Indians. Dad's bike was a rather interesting one of a kind Indian cold blooded to the point it some times had to be towed to jump start it. throttle on the right both front and rear brake on the right as well. clutch on the left rear stick shift on the left as well. it was a bit tricky to shift but it was the coolest bike I'd ever seen. he had double darksided it. his head light came from an old Chevy pickup truck when his original seat gave out he replaced it with the seat of an old ford farm tractor and added a bed pillow just to make it a bit more comfortable. Would I buy one of the new Polaris Indian's if I could afford it? Do chickens lay eggs?

I rented one a few years ago out in Utah. It started out as a very warm day and I was heading back to where I was staying, wearing only a helmet, mesh jacket and gloves. Oh yeah, jeans too. Riding only in boxers isn’t safe. The weather made a big change as a cold front came through and rain started falling. I thought I was going to take a bath but I raised the windscreen to its highest setting, closed the lower vents and cruised home in a pocket of dry air. Very impressed with the bike.

Indians ride better than any other cruiser but my experience owning them was awful. There is no support after purchase. Unfortunately I broke down a lot and parts were ridiculous to get. My buddy has a 2017 vintage and he wanted to get reduced reach handlebars for it. They don’t make em anymore! The fuckin bike is 3 years old and they already don’t support it. I can walk into a Harley dealer and buy any part I want for my 15 year old Harley and it will be in stock in the building. Even though Indian is a better ride owning a Harley is so much easier. Indian needs to step up their game. Their dealers suck and honestly Polaris kind of sucks too.

I’d rather ride an Indian but I’d rather own a Harley. No dealer support and no parts availability. They break down just as much as a Harley but Harley parts are in stock and there are experienced service depts everywhere. When your Indian breaks down and it will just like any other bike the parts take weeks to months and the service depts might be able to squeeze you in sometime in the next decade. I loved my Indians but I don’t think I will ever own another one. Too much headache. Hell, my buddy can’t even get handlebars for his 2017 Chief cuz they don’t make em anymore. I loved that bike, and I put it through hell, and it came through like a champ! I have a picture of riding it in 122 degree weather one day in California, then, when I was working in Palmdale, I regularly rode it in 30 and 40 degree temperatures. Even though these bikes are air/oil cooled, it never skipped a beat. In December of 2018, I bought the Roadmaster and love it even more than the Chieftain! This bike is super comfortable, feels really nimble for such a heavy bike, and looks amazing! The only changes I have made to it is to add turndown exhausts and a ram air intake. I will not have any other models!

Ancient Harleys had oil in the right tank and gas was only in the left tank. there was a hand pump in front of the right tank for pumping oil into the oil total loss engine. Hence two caps. After Harley put an oil pump on the engine and an oil tank under the seat they kept the two caps. Actually the gas crossover tube was slow so with my 1973 Harley I would fill my left tank first then there would still be room for more in the right tank.

Sean, I own a 2020 Springfield and I will try to help with more substance for this video. Yes, I love the bike, and I will focus on the cons. 1. The gas tank cap: it does not have a key-lock. 2. Both controls on the handle bar: those are plastic as opposed to metal. 3. The kickstand: it takes more than one foot swing/positioning effort to put it down in a safe place. Perhaps this might not be an issue for some one that is 6'2", but for me 5'9", it is a double step effort. 4. The mufflers: both are a little too low to the ground on each side. I had three bikes before this one, and those were forgiving, but this one, you have to move your feet away immediately as soon as you start turning from 0; otherwise, one of your boots might get caught up between road and muffler. As for the large FOB, perhaps that is for when wearing thick gloves.

just an honest question, if Polaris is doing so well reviving Indian, then what happened with Victory?
@alanphillips16102 жыл бұрын
When they bought Indian, they decided to throw their money and efforts in to Indian brands. The Indian Challenger actually has a Victory designed motor in it from the victory Vision

Two wheeled Lincoln you mean. I think of Harley glides as the Escalades and Yukons of the motorcycle world and the Indian Chief , Indian Chieftain as say, the navigator and Navigator L respectively. Victorys took the place of the Ford Expedition and Expedition EL

I’m very new to Indian. Picked up a 2017 scout used, 1 previous owner who modded it through the dealer. The scout is liquid cooled but the bigger bikes aren’t? I don’t understand this.

Indian haters going to hate. Meanwhile Harley is on the brink of bankruptcy. I loved my Victory Kingpin I rode for 10 years an 88000 miles and I love my Indian Chieftain I have ridden 2 years now.

I don't like the the way the 2 into 1 exhaust ties together, the side cover design and the hubcap shaped valve/rocker covers. Other than that i like it but I'd want to know about ad ons like aftermarket pipes,breathers,levers etc. The routine maintenance vs a harley and is there a possible mechanical failure of a certain part like the timing chain tensioner shoes on a v twin harley that can wear out between 20k or 80+ k.

Ultimately a good overall video. I've never owned a Harley or Indian motorcycle. But I will admit that 2015 Chief with all the accessories is nice for the price advertised. I'm aware a cruise control is preferred by most on large cruisers. But I've been happy 15 years now with my throttle rocker palm rest on my 05 Suzuki DL 650 V-strom. There inexpensive and give allot of relief on your throttle wrist when cruising on the highway. But I have yet to find a good wrist relief for your clutch hand when dealing with stop and go traffic when trying to get through Chicago.

Nice thing about Indian you don't have to spend a shit ton of monies in upgrading just to get the same amount of horse power that comes stock in metric bikes.

You just proved what I've been saying for years. The Indian riders and dealers can dish out but can't take the same or less . The 05 rk I had came with chrome lowers not cvo. The key fob for newer Harleys are huge too but no buttons. Is a vicinity remote.
