I still really don't understand why this album was so harshly criticized at the time it was released - I love just about every Spinnerette song with the same intensity as my love toward Distillers songs, some maybe even more. Everything she has released under any band name/solo project is in a class of its own. You go, Brody!

People accused her of being a spiritual successor of hole and some other weird stuff like that. Now you know. They were very judgemental, but I liked hearing the influence of different prolific artists who's works I follow in the works of others I follow, on occasion. Much like the collaborations between Ichika Nito and Marcin.
@Mattalica-ss9pj Жыл бұрын
Because most people want artists to never change or do anything different. Sure, I like The Distillers, but that doesn't mean she has to do that forever -- I also thought that the Spinnerette album (and this song in particular) were outstanding, and I her solo stuff too. An artist should do what *they* want/feel and that's where she's been successful - It's all her.

Really don't understand these hater comments by fundamentalist Distillers fans. Her work keeps evolving. Get over it.
@joezo8 жыл бұрын
If by evolving you mean changing styles to match the man shes with then you are right. Just like Tim was the genius behind the Distillers, Josh Homme is obviously influencing Both Spinerette and her solo career.

When I say style, I don't just mean genre. I mean everything about her. She was the female Tim Armstrong before, now she's the female equivalent of Josh Homme.

Baptized By Fire Spinnerette (Ooh, ooh, ooh) Have you ever been alone? Fighting your own war? Someone stole the life from you And now they're back for more Your heart is on the floor Beating out of control Oh, I don't want this anymore So I'll be sailing on Out into bermuda blue Compass needle breaks Like the heart I gave to you I've been laying down In the devil's lair Sailing into the sun I'll be baptized there (Ooh, ooh, ooh) In matters of the heart One must try to fill it up With love and grace, you'll start a fire Immerse old wounds & douse them out Pick your heart up off the floor Hold it gently now and go To the place you were meant to know So I'll be sailing on Out into bermuda blue Compass needle breaks Like the heart I gave to you I've been laying down In the devil's lair Sailing into the sun I'll be baptized there I'll be sailing on I'm gone, I'm gone I'll be sailing on I'm going to the sun I'll be sailing on I'm gone, I'm gone I'll be sailing on I'm going to the sun So I'll be sailing on Out into bermuda blue Compass needle breaks Like the heart I gave to you I've been laying down In the devil's lair Sailing into the sun I'll be baptized there So I'll be sailing on Out into bermuda blue Compass needle breaks Like the heart I gave to you I've been laying down In the devil's lair Sailing into the sun I'll be baptized there Writer(s): Brody Dalle, Alain Johannes Moschulski

1.25 Increases the tempo too much to where the song ends up sounding like crap. To actually fix the song it would require someone to slightly speed up the slow parts, and keeping the chorus at its current. Speeding it all up throws everything out of whack just like the original.

haha, all these hateful comments by previous fans (?). From an objective POV this is overall better produced, better melodies, more complexity. But yes its not strictly the same genre style as her older stuff. I guess Brody is not focusing on changing her music more than changing her fan-base. And judging from all these comments she deserves so much better ... haha. gsus.

***** Hello there. "You forget that opinions don't have to be calm and collected,..." I never claimed they had to, I was just amused about all the hate. "There's just more money here for her..." So is she making more money now? From what I read here her old fans dont like her new stuff. Not sure It means more money then? For me, I am not a fan per se. I like some of her new stuff and I like some of her older stuff. But most of all I like a lot of other stuff that other people did.

Especially as an artist, you evolve, you find new things that you take interest in, you experiment, you change constantly. This is a complete product of no self worth and no identity. And who can really blame her? Brody has had a horribly rough life, and to make it this far, I do applaud her. However, like so many other women with no identity, they find a man and completely glomb onto their style and world, I mean, I have known girls who changed looks/personalities with every man they had, going from metal to pop to country to punk. She was with Armstrong, her music was punk, shes with Homme and her music is retro synthy whatever they classify QOTSA. I guarantee if she was with Marilyn Manson next, her next album would be Portrait of an American Shock Punk Girl. Brody should take some time alone to self reflect and find her way, because this isn't it, and I'm sorry to all my other Distillers fans out there, The Distillers wasn't her either. (Allthough personally my favorite between the 2.)
