I really hate to hear that surjury is only done if you have a curvature of 80-90 degrees. I am an example of this. Doctors told me in my late teens that they would not do the operation after years of bracing that was unsuccessful. I hate my body because I look like Igor from Frankenstein. I wear extremely baggy clothing, nothing form fitting so hopefully no one can tell that I have this. I wear long hair because my neck looks like a duck, so I cover that too. I have pain every single day even though doctors told me there would be no pain associated with this condition-that it was all in my head. I am 32 years old now and very bitter. I wish I would have had a choice of whether to do this or not, not a doctor flat out telling me no. I have done my research on it, seen videos of it being performed and know the risks. Please give us a choice- IT'S OUR BODIES, IT SHOULD BE OUR CHOICE!

clare wagner how large is your curve? Mine is 67, I’m not sure if it’s enough to demand surgery, but I really want surgery.

You will 100% find excellent doctors willing to do your surgery considering you know the potential complciations involved. Idk about your age factor, but definitely talk to doctors. Doctors are willing for surgery at 70ish degrees too.

We do not recommend or refer doctors if you do not have a physician, but our website has a geographic list of SRS members who are almost all orthopaedic spine specialists - some are researchers, allied health. Membership in SRS indicates that at least 20% of the doctor’s practice is in spinal deformity, that they attend annual meetings, and stay abreast of new information and new research.
