I didn't really get just how small the akimbo is, and I will likely get one eventually. I just picked up a RRP after rocking the ZZ+ and chicane/wrench. I tried the fusion tether and I still have it, but it sits in storage until I get a dedicated wrench for it. It's too much of a one trick pony for me. I'm getting back into hitchcords, as i have gotten quick enough at splicing, thanks in part to your excellent videos, that they're pretty cost effective. I think a MAJOR plus you missed for the RRP is that Kevin insisted that the wear elements be replaceable. A big win for people who use these tools for work. Also worth mentioning that with hitchcords and a semi rigid tether, you can sideload most of the setup when dealing with suuuper busy trees. Thanks so much for all the great content. I love that park tree of yours. I gotta make a better video of mine; you'll flip.

The fusion tether wrench is nice but you can't just switch over I use arbsession caralink tether comes with dmm small perfect o..with hitchclimber..26 inch epicord 9.3

This video will help someone new make up their mind on a device. I couldn't make up my mind when I first started buying gear. So I ended up with a zigzag + and chicane, rope runner pro (purple edition), isc apex rope wrench with squirrel flex tether, and a dmm eccentric hitch climber system lol. I know it's all completely unnecessary, but I couldn't help myself.

​​@@PoplarMechanic Thanks man, you to. Can't wait to get my hands on the Buckingham Throttle to try out. Seen a video of it from tcia and man it looks nice. Like a beefed up akimbo. Pretty sure it's self adjusting to, and it won't be finicky from weather, or certain ropes. To me that was the major draw back of the akimbo, and what kept me away from it.

I haven't used my Rope Runner Pro a lot and so I'm sure I'll get better at it. As a heavier climber, I don't like how it can lock on pretty hard such that it is hard to get going sometimes. I have even messed around with rope walking with the RR Pro, without a knee ascender. It has more setback than my Unicender but it also sometimes locks hard enough that my elastic neck tether isn't stout enough to tend the RR Pro. Regardless, I'll try to use it more and get better. I'm curious to see how the new Buckingham Throttle (or whatever it will be called) will do. It seems kind of big and bulky - probably would fit my style! It might be out in April? I'm also intrigued by the HitchHikerXF. As a mechanical engineer I want to be drawn to mechanical devices; however, that HitchhikerXF looks to function very well.

Ya, the full mechanicals can take some time to dial in. Weight and rope can be a big factor. That new device looks pretty cool, almost like a giant akimbo. My buddy has that hitchhiker and really likes it. Hopefully, you find something that suits you. Stay safe and warm! 🤙

Runner and Akimbo are more versatile in my opinion. The Wrench doesn't do a weighted traverse well. I agree that the RRPro is the best option on the market for anyone who wants to use a mechanical SRS device. It would be nice to see a rated MRS attachment on the Akimbo and Runner.

Ya, for sure. I agree. My rope runner spring did get sticky the other day. Needs a cleaning it doesn't have the same spring it once did.

@@PoplarMechanic Have you tried Sap Zaprrr? It works great for cleaning and lubricating hardware. A small bottle will last a long time. I get mine from Wesspur.

Nice video, I'd want to try out the rope wrench or akimbo for a couple jobs before committing on the purchase. I still use the prussik and rope wrench and it works for me. With the cold snap are you still able to work? I saw that Edmonton had temperatures near -50 with wind-chill. Way too cold for me in southern Ontario

I totally agree. It's a good idea to test before you buy it if possible. Nope, I'm not working in this weather. True -40 without windchill this morning. I'll probably look at jobs and do a bit of snow this week, then it warms up next week, and I'm back to Tree Work. Stay warm!

Hey, any chance of a video comparing the Rope Runner Pro with the Unicender? We're trying to decide between those two, would be great to get your take. We've already ruled out the Akimbo since we work in a high-humidity place on sappy trees.

The uni is good. However, the rrp is way better imo. The uni needs mods to be decent. I actually traded my uni for an akimbo 😆. Just get the rrp. You won't regret it. Just make sure you air blast out the hole where the spring is and pil it once in a while.

Im 160 170 with tools ..use akimbo on bluemoon yale ropes with higer friction at top lower at lower setting.its nice

That reon tether can be used on unisender. Would like to try that uni scares me on single line hard to stop when decending. So haven't used it.much at all.realy wanted the uni to be the multi cender..for daily but new to srt .going down is smooth but can't stop?

BRO ... 😮😮WTF ... where's the UNICENDER... That is also a top contender for being smooth. Midline attachable and can be SRT or DRT....SAY IT AIN'T SO😢😢😢., in my world That would be the top of mechanical devices..

True, the unicender is a top contender for sure. I ended up trading mine for another akimbo 😆 I did like it, but I didn't like the fact you have to wrap the rope to come down srt. Also, there is no tending pully stock. If I still had it, I would have included it. Thanks for watching 🤙
