Quick little how-to on changing brake pads on the Brembo brake system found on the Hellcats, and other models of SRT vehicles. Sorry for the production quality. Just me and a little mini tripod. Any questions, let me know

Great video👍🏻 In the future, I would suggest installing (2) wheel nuts onto the (2) studs to keep rotor seated against wheel bearing (finger tight). This way you'll know that rotor won't wobble during installing of pads. Although Brembo doesn't apply Loctite on the center bolt, I apply a drop before torquing her down.

If your brakes are worn a big and the pistons are pushed out, not letting the new pads in, slide the old pads back in about halfway and use them as a pry tool. Pull or push the old pad against the pistons which will reset all 3 at the same time. If you only push 1 piston in, the other 2 may push out even further to compensate.
@SRTMUSH8 жыл бұрын
exactly, luckily these were new when changed. Normally Id use a C clamp and a used pad to push all in at the same time if they are pushed real far out

Yeah thats old school… my old man taught on the old calipers to take the cap off the brake fluid reservoir and stick a flathead screw driver between the pad and rotor and push the cylinder back in before taking the caliper alway off…

@Ltngdrvr8 жыл бұрын
Hopefully, when you did the other side, you remembered to compress the caliper pistons before you took it all apart. Then the pads just slip out and back in effortlessly. Also a good idea to pop the cap off the M/C fluid reservoir so the fluid doesn't pop the seal as it gets pushed back into it.

If using same rotors you should be scrubbing the rotors with a scotchbrite pad and some simple green. Talk to HAWK or any reputable performance brake company and they should tell you the same thing. It helps remove the old brake pad material that gets embedded into the rotor. Glad to see you discussing the "Bedding"process at the end.. most do not mention this...

Good vid, the deceiving part is the red cover. It's nice that it stays in place and after the pins and springs are removed the pads slide out. Push the Pistons back in and clean all the dust up. Put the pads back In. Sweet! I've always applied a little lube to the face of the Pistons that make contact with the pads. Is this necessary for these brakes?

A) everyone knows you have to compress pistons on any brake job to get new pads in. Hopefully you didn’t bugger up the sides trying to force new pads in the first time(s) 2) the ceramic pads still dust, and it’s still corrosive, it’s just not black.

#2, I'm going to disagree with you there. I have these same Carbon Fiber-Ceramic pads and oversized rotors on both my 2011 Ford Raptor and on my 2004 Mustang Mach 1, and if there is any brake pad dust, its miniscule at best. What I see mostly is just road dust. These are well worth the money. These were just put on my 2021 Challenger Scat pack shaker widebody to eradicate the huge amounts of filthy, black acidic factory-pad brake dust on the rims. It worked like a charm, once again.

@SRTMUSH7 жыл бұрын
they probably are. Only difference may be the rotor. But if its a 6 piston brembo on a relatively new car, it will likely be almost the same
@HC192003 жыл бұрын
Normally you remove the caliper and push the brake pistons back in, and you set your pads then put the caliper back on. Are these cars different, or is this whole job incorrectly done ?
@pdavid243 жыл бұрын
First, watch the jack points. Make sure you are jacking on the frame and not the body. Note how the underside of his car started to cave in from the jack(1:17- 1:27). That is not correct. With Brembos you can slide the pads in from the "top" no need to swing caliper away from rotor. You do need to push the pistons back, ideally using the pad for even pressure and open the bleeder screw on the caliper. Worst case you can open the brake fluid reservoir and SLOWLY push caliper pistons in.
@JohannGambolputty223 жыл бұрын
Not with brembos. They are literally designed to allow swapping pads easily at the track with minimal tools. This guy just didn’t know how to compress the pistons correctly.

Where did you buy the pads and wouldn't you need to resurface the brakes so it doesn't squeak

Ordered them from summit. I don't think that's necessary with 1500 miles on the rotors

I take that back. I ordered them from jegs

How do you forget to compress the caliper pistons ? Was this the very first time you ever changed brake pads from a car? That’s a bruh moment right there
