Seeing Stevie like this just makes me so glad he was able to clean up. He may not have had much time to enjoy sobriety, but at least he got to feel how positive his life was because of it. He was amazing when he was using, he got even better when he got straight... SRV, guitarist, Texan, Legend. Thank you Stevie for all you gave us.

screenpuller yeah man I can see it too he looked better, you could tell he felt better, I lived in Austin 81,82 ,I went to see him at a club called the back room, heard him mention it in one of these interviews, made me feel good to hear it , because I always told ppl. About seeing him there. But its like he was a whole other life, or person. Always was impressed with his down to earth manorism and kindness, they say he was always about helping someone out battling, addiction, alcoholism. He will always be the greatest . RIP. SRV.

Susan Gwinn He’s been my favorite since I was playing guitar at a friend’s house in 7th grade (he’d also gotten a guitar over Christmas break that year) and his Dad overheard me trying to play (and butchering) Voodoo Chile. His dad, Frank, asked if I’d ever heard of SRV. When I said ‘no’, my friend, Chris, lost his mind. He ran to his Dad’s CJ-7 Jeep, ejected a cassette tape from the deck and handed it to me. Chris said, ‘Man, you can’t be a Hendrix fan and not listen to Stevie Ray. Hell, you can’t be a guitarist and not listen to Stevie.’ That cassette was ‘Couldn’t Stand the Weather’. The next day I took all the money I had saved up and rode my bike to the little department store called ‘Magic Mart’ in our town. I spent every dime I had, a little over $30, and rode home like I was being chased by a bear so I could listen to my two new CDs: ‘Texas Flood’ and ‘The Sky is Crying’. From that moment on, I wanted to be him. Not become him, or copy him (as if I could). But to love music and the guitar the way he did and to always be true to yourself.

You could meet and talk to Stevie whilst under several outside influences. His favourite drink or his favourite powder. Sometimes you might chat with him in the am. Wake up time. Always more than coffee in his cup. Point is that he lived his life using the extras to be how he was. The humble man who always talked more of his brother than of himself. This was a human being with a very special talent. The simple fact of the matter is. It was what it was. Here is his life and this is what he brought to people. The Blues is something that he lived his own way in his incredible time on earth.

SRV was trying to be discrete about his drink here thinking that it wouldn't be shown but the interviewer was pumping him for info and saw that he more relaxed with each sip. SRV was trusting her to not show the mischief but she made sure it was caught on video and everyone thinks he is blitzed as a result of it, that was unfair to Stevie. Yes he is showing a playful side because that is his nature, just because he smiles and laughs and is making eye contact doesn't mean he is flirting. He mentions missing his wife and that is the hard part of being on the road. Having been a bartender you are trained to know the signs of when to cut people off. I agree that he isn't feeling any pain at this point and I wouldn't let him drive but he is functional and not under the table. He did the right thing by cleaning up his act, its just a crying shame he couldn't have been around a lot longer. I think I speak for everyone that we Love him and miss him so much because he was an incredible talented human being. Imagine teaching yourself to master an instrument and playing the music of your mentors that you love to hear and play and then being able to meet them in your lifetime and not only meet them but be able to play along with them and have them honor you, only Stevie would say I'm just doing the best I can. He never got the big head that some others may have, he stayed humble and down to earth NO matter what condition he was. We all love Stevie Ray Vaughn and the gift he shared with us, we are selfish for wanting more. As my Daddy would say in his thick southern draw Nobody gets out of here alive.

Enjoyed your comment. When Stevie was killed, i felt i lost a family member. As a guitar player, he showed me how i wanted to play. As a human, he taught me to be humble. He's by far the best player to pick up a guitar. R.i.p. Stevie. You will never be forgotten.

I watched a video about why Stevie was special, and the guy who made it described the way Stevie dressed as “a Texas cowboy genie” he wasn’t wrong at all.

Stevie was such a class act, one more reason to be proud of our Texas.

I was just a little kid when SRV died so I only know his legend but listening to this he seems like a down to earth guy who really cares for people.

He was fantastic. The first time I saw him lonnie mack opened. Just great! The 2nd. He opened for jeff beck.he was incredible. Its hard for me to explain how good he was. I am a guitar player. As was most of the 20,000 people in the audieance.he and jeff beck put on a clinic on how to play a electric guitar. And they both played together for about a 30 minute encore. The place went nuts. I am really glad I got to see this. R.i.p mr.vaughn. you were a great guy. And a beast on your strat.

I think one time SRV opened for B.B., and after B.B. heard his set he decided just to let Stevie play the whole show so he could listen.

I've always felt that SRV never got half the praise that he deserved. The way he went out was also crazy, too. Can anyone answer why bon Jovi was in the rock and roll hall of fame before stevie? Travesty
@fendertremolo97934 жыл бұрын
Bon Jovi is a legend in his own right, so don't disrespect him. Your problem should be with the writers, who voted. Imbecile.
@JC-111113 жыл бұрын
Then you don't pay attention. Stevie is regarded among the best by most everyone. Being regarded among the best means there's no way he only gets "half the praise he deserves". Reminds me of all the people that say "insert guitar player here" is underrated. People like to say Dickey Betts is underrated. Or SRV is underrated. Or whoever their favorite is. That couldn't be further from the truth. They all get the recognition and praise they rightly deserve today. In the 80s and 90s they didn't. But today? They get more than enough. You wanna talk about underrated guitar players? Let's talk about what's his name that, wrote Maggot Brain for The Funkadelics. Or JB MONEY aka Joseph Bythewood, who played electric guitar on more chart-topping rap & R&B albums than you can count. Let's talk about actual great guitar players that don't get the recognition and praise they deserve. Not all these mainstream artists that everyone knows and loves.

@@knows-about one of my favorite guitar solos EVER is by JB Money aka Joe Bythewood. It's on an old 90s rap classic called PWA by 5th Ward Boyz. You actually have to listen to the Instrumental to hear the entire solo because the lyric track cuts it extremely early. I only just found out who JB Money was and that, he played one of my favorite solos ever. I was into rock music long before rap so when I heard this song with this solo, it caught me instantly. Especially because the solo is incredible, IMO. Tragically, Joe was murdered in 2015, IIRC, by his own son. Taken far, far too soon. I believe his son got life in prison. There's a few vids of Joe on KZbin. One is of him playing Maggot Brain. Here's that Instrumental I mentioned previously, PWA. You should listen to his solo. It starts at the 4 minute mark but he plays through the entire song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWiWq6CGiqmad8k

I think I know where he got the line "All of the telephone lines are down". It's simple. He cut them down because he played WITH POWER LINES ON HIS GUITAR! 13-58? INSANE.

Except he didn't write those lyrics, Albert King did.

He also tuned flat at least a half step if not a whole step. Makes those telephone lines a bit easier to bend yet maintain that thick sound.
