How do we make the ultimate mecha? First, put an incredibly powerful psychic in as basically the control system. Second, put an engine powered by the most powerful substance in the universe in it. Then, make it be piloted by a Super Robot fan who names half the attacks himself. Oh, and lets give it a support robot that is a Wave Motion Gun powered by said reactor that can blow up STARS. WHY? THERE IS NO KILL LIKE OVERKILL!

Nine years later, in SRW 30, Rai even admits that Ryusei yelling all the attacks helps Rai to properly regulate the Tronium Engines output. In other words, now Ryuseis attack calls ARE TACTICALLY USEFUL!

Amusingly enough, for me at least, what really made the SRX for me (for Inspector at least) was the SECOND time it showed up. The first time was amazing, but the second time, I realized-they were using the damned stock footage from the first combination scene. It was absolutely perfect, because the SRX is a walking homage to the entire Super Robot genre, and stock footage combination scenes are an absolute staple.

In a little bit of amusing hindsight, Variable Formation gets shorter as you view the in universe chronological order (IE Divine Wars is longer than The Inspector, which is longer than the OVA).

Sunrise did Super Robots(The Braves Series) themselves back in the day too though, although they did seem to steal the effects of the Nendo Fieldfor the combination part. There's a fair bit of GaoGaiGar(Which Sunrise also has the rights to) in the transformation(And not just the lion head).

The Fantom Convoy👑🏆 I was actually more talking about how before they actually combine, it's kind of reminiscent of GaoFighGar's Gaomachines appearing one after the other in FINAL Episode 1. Also the lion head. EDIT: I think there were a couple of other instances in the original GaoGaiGar 50 episode series where they appear in a similar fashion too.
