Some quite important tips from sci main, since I see those mistakes all the time 1. DO NOT let the artifact get both phasing through objects and being sentient (you can choose to NOT activate the node to avoid all the BS that may follow). If it still happened, now you need a grav gun to get rid of it by yeeting to space. 2. Higher node depth means stronger artifact activation effect. If you are having a node reading of potentially explosive reaction on depth 3+, do it outside sci in free space and with either having a sapper suit or ordering a borg to do it 3. Some artifacts can ruin whole round by creating a tesla ball or singularity on higher depths, DO NOT activate it without a reallly good reason. Getting lols is not a good reason. 4. Read the damn scanner readings on the node reaction, not just activation trigger. It can end the whole department if you don't 5. You can use your pen to write down the exact reaction of the artifact on node printout (scaner readings can often be vague). If you have multiple artifacts, it's a good idea to write down short description of the artifact on the print and the number of parent node too. So if somebody decides to shuffle the papers (or it just happens due to things that take place only in sci), you can still restore the node diagram and keep working p.s. yes, I know it's boring, but getting your whole department or even station destroyed sucks even more
@andrewgreeb91611 күн бұрын
Artifact box can still imprison phasing artifacts, but good luck catching it, higher depth does drastically increase effect power. Station wide Destruction nodes should be self explanatory, yet somehow people seem to still trigger them, to the point the server I play on removed them.

Should be noted here that this will go away reasonably soon; the "3moarch" refactor is functional on Wizden, but given the large PR load it's lower prio atm. That will see node display brought into the computer console and change how artifacts work so that artifacts are a set of unlocks of functionality which are then interacted to do so a certain number of times tied to durability. Downstreams are free to take a look themselves, it's really good work.

Your previous videos show that the container usually survives this, was it changed?

As an RD main, thank you for this. (Although my first reaction was "Fake science, no explosions.") Always good to have more educated artifact scientists out there whose health and safety I can trade for sweet, sweet research points. Just remember the unofficial Science Department motto: "If we knew what was going to happen when we pushed the button, it wouldn't be science."
@hedera133211 күн бұрын
Now, in order to change branches, you need to activate the artifact at either depth zero set to UP, or at the end of a branch (so, edge 1) set to DOWN. If the bias on the analyser works (it doesn't always, which is why it can ocassionally go in the opposite direction to what it is set to when not at 0 or a branch) it will switch branches.
@hedera133211 күн бұрын
Holy shit, this is the exact same way I draw my branches. Like, down to the box shape with the node and edge number! Only I also put down the stimulation and reaction next to it so that way all I need to do is use the node scanner and I know what I need to do to activate it.

@Mort4lD4rkn3ss10 күн бұрын
There is one thing you didn't mention and I am now curious if my observation is correct or if I've just gotten lucky with every artifact I've done this with. On depth 0 with 2 edges (technically with 3 edges also but that requires more explaining) I've had Up and Down consistently go to different nodes. So if I start going down, I can go up back to 0, leave it on up and activate again to go to the other branch. If there's 3 edges at depth 0, my experience has been that up will consistently go to a specific node, and down will go to the two remaining nodes at random. This is assuming you haven't hit your pad with upgrades, as I haven't done enough testing with that.

Other issues arise when you only have one chamber mapped and the artifact explodes destroying science's primary means of generating research points, and there's no heads of staff to grab the gold from the vault to make a new scanner. Science also doesn't come with half of the items needed to trigger the artifacts and explaining where you can get some of them would be helpful.
