This is gold. Everytime I watch this video, I grasp more and more info. Been watching intermittently for 8 years. Hahah.

I never really comment or like videos, But after watching this video i felt i absolutely had to note here how brilliant this video is. I have not found anywhere that gives a better overview of these protocols and how they work together.

Thanks for the comments everybody. It's really appreciated. I also just uploaded a few on EPS architecture if anyone's interested. I might redo this video soon also, as I felt I fumbled a bit too much on the SCCP call flow to my liking. I do all these in one take, so there's almost always a spot or two I felt could have been better. Part of the reason my video count is so light I'm sure. :)

Dear DeLong ....after watching this video ..now it becomes more easier for me to understand the signaling Part.Like SS7 and sigtran ..Could you please upload video for data call flow ..? thanks.
@QuadraticSquared10 жыл бұрын
Hi Khaled, What specifically do you mean by "data call flow"? If you're talking about EPS registration in a mobile context, I have a video on that actually: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5mQmayHmtaaaLM If that's not what you mean, can you clarify? "Data call flow" is kind of ambiguous. :)

Dear ***** thanks for your attention...I wanted to mean ..How a mobile subscriber browse internet ? like the signaling between BSS to SGSN then to GGSN. Finally,thanks again for the EPS attach Procedure .All the video lectures you provided are informative and easy to understand.
@QuadraticSquared10 жыл бұрын
Oh, so for setting up an Internet connection, that's basically the EPS Attach procedure (which results in a user getting an IP address in a "PDN" which can for example be the Internet). As for SGSN, GGSN and BSS, you're referring to the GPRS-equivalent of the same thing. If you look at the comparison I have near the end of the following video, I explain how SGSN, GGSN and BSC/RNC map into the newer EPS architecture: kzbin.info/www/bejne/moqVkGRtrNJ1rsk In terms of procedures, for GPRS you're talking about two call flows basically. The "GPRS Attach" procedure followed by the "PDP Context Activation" procedure. Logically it's extremely similar to the EPS Attach, done in two steps.

As it relates to this SS7 video, I should mention that while the EPS uses Diameter for subscriber authentication, in GPRS the SS7 network is used. In that setup, this video is basically the SGSN -> HLR signaling (replace MSC with SGSN in the video, and that's effectively the exchange). Further, the signaling between the RNC and SGSN there is RANAP, which is also SS7 signaling and can be routed in much the same way.

thanks for the video! great explaining. just one note,i think HLR have its GT from the E.214 range rather than the E.164. if you can see any SAI/Update location trace you will see the HLR GT falls under E.214. in some cases it can fall under E.164 but that is used to skip the steering tool if the other operator is using it (this is in a roaming scenario)
@QuadraticSquared8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! That's true, it can use either. If it's a single PLMN you can also use straight point code translation for it, routing to the HLR application on SSN rather than GT. (TS 29.002, 6.1.3.3.2). There are a lot of areas on these videos where I was mostly giving the "most common" way to do it because I found I'd get way into the weeds if I focused too much on anything.
