I recently got a 2016 korando. For the last 13 years I've driven vw and mercedes. The ssangyongs are actually pretty decent cars.

Ssangyong is an established brand in Korea and specializes in making SUVs and 4x4s. They also make the Chairman brand which is a line of luxury saloons. The reason they haven't been more successful overseas is the lack of marketing or funds to compete.

Great value & features. We do miss out on both Sat Nav, the navigation feature displayed in the Digital Cluster, which is available on UK Spec vehicles as well as mood lighting, but we do get a full size spare wheel in the Ultimate LE as opposed to the Goo kit the Poms get. Still this one is absolutely worth a good look.

I have a 2004 Daewoo Lacetti sx, which is a South Korean made car. I really hate the fact that here in NZ, it's very difficult to get parts for my car. A petrol pump cost me almost $500, not to mention I need to replace my hubcaps, and have been quoted almost $300. So if I were to consider buying a Korando, with it being a Korean car, sourcing parts would be very costly, especially here in NZ.

I remember the first time I saw a SSangYong Rexton on the road. Me n my mate saw it in the corner of our eyes & ended up following it for several kms in a fit of hysterics, gasping for breath. "WTF is that thing!? That dinosaur looking nose?! OMG the back of it gets worse why's it sloped like that - looks like my dog squatting for a piss!". Anyway glad this looks better lol

koreans want jeep typekorando. But russian company tagaz bought musso(boxer sg320) and korando's design and powertrain, so ssangyong can't remake them. Just making from the beginning. Ssangyong's (MB) OM602(OM662NA) and benz 4g-tronic was the best partner.

I think they decided to put the spare in the boot now, I just looked at one in a dealer. Full size spare though, so it does eat into cargo space, but at least its allowed the lip to sit even with the load area.
