One of the few great reviews that tells the truth with no badge snobbery. Driving one in Australia. Smooth and powerful diesel engine, very quiet cabin, good ride quality (on 18 inch rubber) and solid build quality. Beats Landcrusier Prado any day for 30k less.

Great review - had the pre-facelift version when it launched - excellent car, really well built and this revision keeps it looking sharp against rivals - gearbox was previous version’s down side so this new Hyundai box will really help! Ssangyong, as a manufacturer, look to have secured their future back in South Korea with a likely takeover by Edison Motors - not only a great brand name but also specialists in EV. They’d do well to rebrand Ssangyong to Edison in overseas markets where the brand name has struggled to gain traction. It’s a shame to say it but I suspect many people think Ssangyong is Chinese - and whilst most people don’t mind paying Chinese prices, they don’t seem to like Chinese sounding names which explains why ‘actual’ Chinese car brands choose more globally friendly names overseas. For anyone wanting a really capable 4WD with space, quality and reliability you really can’t go wrong with the Rexton - you’d pay 40% more for a Land Cruiser and that car is nothing to write home about in the looks department.

Fantastic review! Comprehensive and fair! I’ve driven an Ultimate Rexton in Oz and loved it. Extremely comfortable and a dream to dive. Waiting for 2022 updates from the take over. We hope we don’t loose the 3.5 towing and tough cassis build. Cheers Jen.

Yeah, ssangyong make better SUV than hyundai. In the 90's musso use be a chair man's SUV. Quality car at the Chinese car price. Also it is very safe.

YOU had a problem - simple. No need to infer there's a general problem with the engine - there isn't - it's a very solid engine that has had more than enough service to prove it.

Still trading, in the middle of a takeover by Edison Motors - a South Korean EV bus and truck maker and undoubtedly hungry to expand into cars. This new Rexton along with a revised Musso and soon to launch EV Korando - Ssangyong very likely to have a good future. Manufacturer difficulties aside - this is really a very good product.

@@MrUPSman Not sure about other countries but, in the UK, warranties are guaranteed by the UK importer - in order to sell cars here you have to ensure warranties are protected so if you buy a car today in the UK, you will have cover for 7 years regardless of what happens to the manufacturer or the importer - so I'd not be put off buying one at all.

They are grossly in debt and can't afford to pay their debt with Mahindra. Avoid this odious brand. The only people that rate it are the dealers, and affiliated reviewers such as planet auto.

Odious? sees to me that's a good description of you! there's nothing odious about Ssangyong, a solid Korean brand that's suffered from poor investment from Mahindra. How is it possible Ssangyong can still make far better cars than it's former parent company? Strikes me you have some sort of weird grudge with both Ssangyong and PlanetAuto...

try to figure out something hard to imagine: a family with 3 kids (or more) living in the mountains or countyside, going camping some time. Anyway, it's not bigger than usual family MPV, only nicer and capable of going offroad. In fact, it's very practical. Were I to have one more kid, I'd buy it

Rugged and handsome front end, nice looking rear end but those side flanks look somewhat ugly. Very good warranty. A proper off road vehicle if you need that capability. Just one little niggly thing, the lack of adaptive cruise control. Imo a like for like reasonable and more than capable load and towing vehicle all be it a little slow off the mark to 60 mph with it’s quite high Co2 figure.
