Almost 3 years later, and this is still one of my favorite moments in evo history, next to moment 37. The story of someone who was always falling short to victory, finally rising to the top. The emotion shown is priceless. He didn't think he would've won, but yet he did. Hungrybox deserved this win after everything he has done to win before. EVO Melee is full of legendary sets/moments/stories, but I don't think this can be topped. Hungrybox on the loser's side of Grand Finals. Armada pulls out two games from Hbox after he wins his own two games, a reverse 3-0 waiting to happen. Then, on game 5, Hbox clutches it out with the stray nair, resetting the bracket. On the second set, Armada again takes the lead and quickly gets two games again, and Hbox plows through with two games of his own. Once again on game 5, Armada finally chokes and Hbox is the one who comes out on top after 40 grueling minutes, a spectacular end to TWO consecutive last-game-last-stock sets.

Another Russian Shill I wanna make it clear from the get go that I’m a huge fan of Hbox, and I think he’s improved a lot as a person since the peak of his hate. That said, for anyone who happens upon this comment chain, the comment I’m replying to is not accurate as to why people hate Hbox. For one, Jigglypuff is considered to be a top tier character, universally ranked in tier lists as one of the top characters in Melee-just look at any top melee player’s tier list. Even Hbox himself agrees puff is one of the best. Many top players (though not all) even consider Jigglypuff to be THE number one character-though plenty of other top players disagree. Additionally, while Fox is a really common main amongst top players, there are tons of beloved top players who play characters that aren’t Fox. For instance, Axe’s Pikachu and Armada’s Peach are super beloved for getting the results despite not being Fox. It’s not just that Hbox plays a character that isn’t Fox. And it’s not just the character Hbox plays, either. Mang0, one of the most beloved Smash players of all time, was the premier puff main for a while, even before Hbox entered the scene, and people mostly loved Mang0 for it. Why the hate, then? Hbox got hate because his playstyle as puff is considered to be campy by a lot of competitive players. For instance, he’s done stuff like time out players and spend minutes running away from his opponents, which many feel is a super lame way to win. Moreover, he was a bit cocky several years ago, and did some questionable things that got blown way out of proportion by people who already disliked his playstyle. Of course, he’s changed a ton for the better since then, and he’s not the same Hbox back all those years ago Again, screw the haters: I love Hbox the way he is, and he’s changed a ton for the better. But the record should be set straight on why he was disliked, it’s not just jealous braindead kids *edit: a guy got into a lengthy debate with me about it below, and it’s messy. He said that I’m wrong about why people dislike Hbox. However, his argument for why amounts to that he thinks that smashers are generally insecure liars, and so every single person in the smash community who’s stated why they dislike Hbox across the years (who I’ve paraphrased in this comment) must ALL be insecure liars that are lying about their reasons.* *In other words... his justification is that his opinion that most/all people in a community he isn't involved in and knows very little about are liars?? without any proof of anything? just his opinion, with nothing else to back it up? This is what he claims, despite the reasons those smashers have offered having been shown to be true, even admitted to by Hbox and his close friends* *I want to emphasize again, I’m literally just paraphrasing what people have said on smash boards, Reddit, and irl over the years as to why they dislike Hbox. This isn’t my opinion, it’s literally just what dozens of people have said* *However, the guy who said I was wrong doesn’t accept this, but literally has no evidence for me being wrong other than his opinion that smashers are insecure, habitual liars and suggestions of other reasons that people might dislike Hbox that have not been backed up by evidence. The suggestion he mainly tried to push was that puff is a female character, and smashers hate Hbox because they’re subconsciously misogynistic about the character a person uses-again, without any evidence whatsoever, or despite the fact that many top players who main female characters, including other top puff mains, have not gotten hate similar to that of Hbox’s* *He’s also demonstrated that he knows very little about the melee community and its players beyond, say, a few KZbin videos. He’s been so incorrect and so defensive about really basic things (like repeatedly denying that Armada began as a Peach main and has mainly used Peach, with a Fox in certain situations such as vs puff) that I could tell instantly that he knows next to nothing about melee. I strongly suspect he had to google things as the debate progressed b/c he didn’t know anything I was talking about. “Armada is a Fox main with a Peach secondary”? What is he even saying?* *He’s way off, and I don’t know why he’d make such a bold and strange claim without any evidence or understanding of melee’s gameplay mechanics or community.* *just wanted to put a warning beforehand for those that choose to venture deeper*
@spoopdawhoop4 жыл бұрын
Anderson Cooper Dude, with all due respect, you definitely didn’t read my comment carefully. I stated from the get go that I don’t agree with the hate against Hbox and am actually a huge fan of his, and that the hate is unjustified. I also made it really clear that these aren’t things Hbox currently does-I stated outright in my first comment that he’s changed a ton for the better-and that much of the beef is a remnant of an earlier era. My take definitely isn’t wrong. I’m not saying these are things present Hbox does, they’re things that past Hbox did several years ago that people have latched onto and nagged on him for-which is again, in my opinion, highly unjustified. I don’t like Mang0 that much, I’m saying that people in general love Mang0 a ton. There’s absolutely zero question that he’s one of the most beloved Smash players of all time, even if I’m not personally that big of a fan of his. What makes you think he’s a bad person to look up to? I truly don’t understand how you came away with the idea that I dislike Hbox and that I was saying the reason for his hate was things he was presently doing (as opposed to purely past actions). I emphasized literally the exact opposite numerous times.
@spoopdawhoop4 жыл бұрын
Anderson Cooper Also, it’s possible that it’s misogyny, but I’d bet against it. If it were misogyny, people would hate the crap out of Armada, who mains Peach, but that never really happened.
@spoopdawhoop4 жыл бұрын
@Anderson Cooper I want to make it clear that my comment isn't just a take or an opinion. The things in my comment are literally just the things I've heard people in the smash community complain about Hbox regarding for years, even if I don't personally agree with them. I'm not putting out an opinion on why people dislike Hbox, I'm quoting what others have said on smash boards or when talking about top players irl. If you check the boards, you should be able to find what I'm talking about pretty easily.

@Ondřej Dušek This is a reference to EmpLemon's video on HBox. That U-Air Armada did? That one move could've ended the ENTIRE TOURNAMENT. But HBox used Smash Directional Influence to avoid getting hit a second time, which would've killed him right then and there. That one move he did gave him the chance he needed to turn the tables and win the whole tournament. That's why this is such a legendary moment. He just BARELY clutched the match and went home with the gold he deserved.
@cubesolver25644 жыл бұрын
@Comment Cop Depending on where you came from, that could either be a reference to a statement EmpLemon made, or just a statement that happened to be identical to what EmpLemon said. And if it wasn't SDI, please tell me what it was. I don't know much about Melee or it's potential glitches and features.

@@cubesolver2564 It was 100% SDI. Hungrybox is a master of SDI. Watch one of his matches at GENESIS Black. Hungrybox went under the name of Genghis Juan for this tournament. He did this because of a stream challenge. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpKWgaWeeLF7hZo look at 2:30 in this video. You will see Hungrybox teleporting left during the up air and then down during the back air. Hungrybox has been required to master SDI so he can get out of up air and other moves. And he has also mastered DI so he can live mainly Fox up smash after Hungrybox lands a rest on Fox. Hungrybox's SDI is insane and he absolutely changed Melee by winning EVO 2016 and he only was able to survive that up air because of his SDI

The greatest of all time in his game, an argentinian who had to leave his home at a very young age, who gave it his all but came short of the ultimate glory for many years, until he finished his story on the biggest stage possible in arguably the best match of all time. Yeah I’m talking about Juan Debiedma, aka Hungrybox, who else?

Im sorry but Leffen made his mark if you ask me he is the only player eho says stuff as it is and doesnt sugarcoat it or try to be politcally correct
@sarveshsrinivasan42985 жыл бұрын
Crazy K I mean yes, that’s how leffen is. And that makes him one hell of a player, but in all honestly he’s kinda impatient. That’s why he always falls short to hbox, (most of the time) and especially in GF. 2 sets against HBOX is so mentally tiring, I 100% respect armada for doin this against him at gtx 2017 and here. Respect ARMADA.

I think the real stinger here is that Armada failed to do what Hbox did. Last stock, high percent, needed a comeback to close it out.

Remember even though HBox was at 0% in the last game if Armada was just able to recover he could have killed Puff at like 40% so it was a really close match Edit: not even 40% even lower Armada could have killed him at like 20% up throw up air up air

@@saraskyline8331 That was just really well played by armada, immediately capitalizing on the up tilt and using platforms to his advantage. If that was FD, it wouldn't have worked. Also the DI for evading up throw rest is precise and predictable.
