PPMD has to be my favorite melee player. The way he plays is just a sight to see. The man deals with health issues and depression and all these things and he can still show up after half a year of not and wreck house. Can't wait for him to return
@realmofmadness34736 жыл бұрын
PPMD wasn’t just the best Melee player. He IS the best Melee player. Maybe not so much in a skill set anymore, but definitely in an admiration kind of way. I don’t care if he hasn’t attended a major tournament in roughly 2 years and hasn’t placed well in the recent Nationals he has gone to. When this man was on point, nobody was stopping him. Coming from a region with no competitive smash influence in that of North Carolina, to dealing with the emotional baggage of depression, suicidal thoughts, and disapproval of parents, and finally all his health concerns which have continually worsened, to be able to win this tournament in which nobody thought he could do it is a thing of beauty. You can see him struggling at times during this set with missing follow ups, and relatively poor punishments. This set was a super close 5 game set, and it could’ve easily gone to Leffen. But as a personification for PPMD’s life, dealing with all his struggles, he still prevailed. I hope one day this man can come back. The beautiful game of Melee needs its most beautiful player.

I will never understand how people think it's necessary to overblow matches and call matches like this Leffen getting "rekt" by PPMD. Yes, he lost. But he lost 3-2. He put up a great fight and almost won even, last game last stock. It was a *great* match from *both* players. (And before I get responses about Leffen's trashtalk, I'm just talking about the match.)
@LongfellowLP9 жыл бұрын
Every game was last stock too. This was a brilliant set.
@treehann9 жыл бұрын
You're very right. The fact that it was so close is why this is my favorite set from Apex 2015.
@davjags9 жыл бұрын
The reason Leffen gets "rekt" to most people (including myself) is because Leffen plays the "textbook" fox. Nothing crazy when It comes to combo's, just up airs, up smashes and just simple stuff. Not to say what he does is easy, but what he does is safe, and won't cause SDs or drop kills for overextending. But the other players combo him and it makes the other player look more stylish and fun. That's why people say he gets wrecked, because they see him get comboed like crazy, but he doesn't really do it back
@treehann9 жыл бұрын
***** good point. I think Leffen's fox is interesting to watch, but for different reasons than other foxes. His style is pretty brutal and efficient and doesn't rely on crazy lead-ins like you said. It can be more entertaining to see a fox like Hax or Armada juggle him around than vice versa.
@davjags9 жыл бұрын
U can see mango play against a Marth and do more interesting (and personally more entertaining) stuff. Leffen also goes for the "safe" and "correct" DI, and because top players know what that DI is, they do some crazy stuff against Leffen. Watch m2k vs Leffen at TBH4 or Paragon, he actually reads his DI into some crazy stuff, while Leffen just goes for run up upsmash or up throw up airs. It's just that Leffen doesn't try to style on you, he just tries to beat you by any means necessary.

@xdairybastardx9 жыл бұрын
Yall think because he was sick and shit that he was johnsing. A john is when you think you lost because of stupid shit like controller unplug, lag, its the games fault. him being sick can affect his gameplay, just like if PP lost he'd say it was him being jet-lagged and tired aswell. Get it right, things can affect how you play. You dont have to call johns just cause he was ill.
@JohnWittle9 жыл бұрын
xdairybastardx Bro, if while I was playing a tournament game, my CONTROLLER CAME UNPLUGGED, i would john too
@xdairybastardx9 жыл бұрын
John Wittle Right, because if it came actually unplugged, thats not a john, that's a legitimate reason to pause. Saying it slightly unplugged, re-plugging your controller after a loss, complaining about lag, your controller isnt working properly; all of these are johns. a john = a stupid excuse for your loss, an excuse outside the boundaries of reason.

As people have mentioned before... this set was freakin high quality and somewhat of major significance. Definitely a Top 10 Set in my opinion (for recent times). Here's my Top 10 sets (in recent time) in no particular order. 1. Mango vs. Armada (Genesis) 2. Leffen vs. Mango (Apex 2014) 3. Leffen vs. PPMD (Apex 2015) 4. M2K vs. Mango (TBH4 Grand Finals... Honestly both sets could've went down to the wire. M2K actually was dominating for most of the matches but Mango out-clutched him. 5. Hungrybox vs. Mango (EVO 2014 Grand Finals... I know Puff is boring but heck the historic significance of this match... and it went down to the wire) 6. Armada vs. M2K (MLG Anaheim) 7. M2K vs. PPMD (MLG Anaheim Losers Semis) 8. M2K vs. PPMD (TBH3... who doesn't like the Return of the King?) 9. That set in Florida 10. M2K vs. Shiz (ROM... put this set in here mainly cause of Match 4. A set that includes a game of that significance deserves to be put on a top 10 set list)

Lol IF I was a top player or a know player and a commentator said "NAME are you watching" I'd comment "Yes, yes I am"

Looking at this set in 2016, it's amazing to see how the average skill level just doubles every year in melee.

Where was this play at Evo this year? Apex was so amazing and then I feel like Evo sort of fell short. Anyone else?

This was the greatest Melee tournament of all time.

Now everyone bow down to the new hero king, Dr. PP! *Crickets...* I know the name isn't intimidating, but PPMD has gained my respect.

There is just something about PPMD that's so different than the others. He plays so cleanly. Also 10:18 at 0.25 What PPMD pulled was DISGUSTING! Leffen's reaction too is priceless.
