Yeah Pikachu is much less effective against G&W since if you use t-jolts, G&W can just absorb them and kill you at 20%. As well as comboing being really hard against the single best up-B in the game

@@JDuzzle 1. Esam said it was roughly even, if slightly in G&W's favor. Not an outright losing matchup. 2. Matchups don't mean everything. Saying that "this character beats this character" to justify any outcome takes away any skill involved. If you've seen Esam's stream, you'd know how much he hates people blaming matchups for being outplayed. As a hardcore Esam fan, I can confidently say he got outplayed this game. 3. Maister is literally the only G&W at top level, if you think that him making top 8 in an S-tier is anything but skill, you're kidding yourself and everyone else. If you somehow still think Maister didn't deserve this win, your about as delusional as people that think Leo is carried by Joker, and no amount of sensible discussion going to change that.

ESAM goes for the stall/momentum breaker stage pick when picking Lylat. After that game Maister is looking at his phone for a couple of seconds and ESAM is spamming GaW on the character select screen trying to rush him. Normally an ESAM fan, but as someone who's also a Maister fan I'm glad ESAM got three stocked in the last game

There's no doubt that Game & Watch shuts down Pikachu's generic strategy that works against the majority of the cast. However, if Pikachu players learn to adapt and play the match-up right, it looks pretty even TBH. No offense to ESAM, but despite this match-up requiring him to change up his regular play style and come out of his comfort zone, ESAM really does have a bad habit of over extending. So many times Maister is just doing his own thing and swinging moves to cover his own space, but ESAM chooses to dive right into them.. Overall, ESAM is certainly a great player, but he needs to work on fixing some of his bad habits and not fall back into them while under pressure. If he can do that, then we may see him winning some sets over Maister in the future.

Maister Down b bucket and up b basically denied the ability for ESAM to do any combo, without the neutral b to help out, pikachu can just rely on opening to run in and still can’t guarantee anything. Also, maister 2 frame ESAM for several time kind of scared esam, some off stage play are not the best choice So sad to see a ESam that is disappointed

Eh it’s not to huge of a disadvantage. Maister and Esam agree that the match up is close to even. Sure pikachu can’t jolt camp but pika can still rush down GaW pretty hard. Maister is just a really good player.
