You Sir, are truly an amazing individual. I bought my first computer in 1987 it was an Amiga 500 with every upgrade available. I spent a fortune on it. I got it for music production. I have built so many computers through the years and the part prices for what you get now are just unbelievable. I have researched building computers, part selection, and followed all of the system changes made along the way for over 30 years. In all that time no one has offered me more information on building computers than you. You show what parts are best and why, what configurations work best and why, and offer more factual information to help anyone build a great computer at a good price. You really do explain everything clearly and professionally and are a joy to watch because your passion for computers and helping others comes through in every video you make. I just wanted you to know how much I admire and respect who you are and what you are doing for those that watch your videos. Thank you...

The Amiga 500 was revolutionary to me. It was so powerful compared to my dads 386 PC. That, and the spectrum I had before are the main reasons I ended up working as a security IT professional. In my life certain things have lost their shine as I get older, but technology in IT has never failed to amaze me.

SSD's were the best thing to happen to PC's in a long time. To this day it still amazes me how much faster they are than even a premium mechanical drive. And I also love how operating systems can be installed from USB now, instead of installing from a slow and outdated CD and then waiting all night for the updates to get done. Now you can install an OS and some programs in just a few minutes.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the Intel 660p. I had been planning on buying this exact same SSD for my Computer Build, until I learned the difference between MLC, TLC, and QLC. As well as another thing not mentioned that much in here. DRAM. The Intel 660p does not have DRAM installed in the SSD, and you will be using up your own Computer RAM in exchange for this Trade-Off. Taking into account that it is QLC and the slowest form of SSD on the market, does not do this SSD any justice. An SSD not mentioned in this video, that I think should be included, is the HP EX920. It has excellent Performance and compares well against the Sabrent Rocket and Samsung, but without the hefty pricetag of the Samsung Brand. It is a TLC (not as good as MLC, but still much better than QLC), and has its own DRAM Storage. A brief comparison of a few recommended SSD's in this video (Prices are subject to change with time, but are at current moment in time): Intel 660p (1TB): 3D NAND QLC, $0.093/GB, No DRAM, $94.89 Sabrent Rocket (1TB): 3D NAND TLC, $0.110/GB, No DRAM, $109.99 (Has 24 GB SLC Cache) WD Black SN750 (1TB): 3D NAND TLC, $0.201/GB, 1,024 MB DRAM included, $201.39 Samsung 970 Evo Plus (1TB): V-NAND MLC, $0.227/GB, 1,024 MB DRAM Included, $227.49 vs HP EX920 (1TB): 3D NAND TLC, $0.140/GB, 1,024 MB DRAM Included, $111.99

I see one good point for an SSD to have its own RAM. To not need system RAM nor to use NAND cells for block and ops management. For buffering and caching, the OS already does that quite well.

@praetorxyn
@praetorxyn 5 жыл бұрын
@@alex0236 RTX isn't ray tracing. It's an approximation of ray tracing which takes a bunch of shortcuts for performance reasons that still cripples your performance, because real ray tracing is what frickkng Pixar does and takes an enormous amount of time to render. Real time ray tracing is the future, but RTX isn't real time Ray tracing, and we don't need another of Nvidia's proprietary hardware based solutions like PhysX and RTX to become standard anyway. Nobody is going to care at all about real time ray tracing or an approximation thereof until it has a negligible performance impact.

I just got the Crucial 1TB P1 NVME drive, and put it in to a PCI-e x4 adapter card. It's one of the lowest price NVME drives on the market, but don't let that fool you. The performance is great. it depends on the workload really.. if you write large chunks of data at once they really do suck.. i would only get one as a replacement for my hdds really so as a long term storage.. for os'es and programms i have a 970 pro 1 tb and 2 860 evos 1 tb in raid 0 for games.. the thing is that for reading little chunks of data or writing large ones they don't really shine.. doesn't matter if it's the 660 or the samsung qlc drive.. i mean i would love to switch from my hdds to ssds even for long term storage like movie collection and music and such and have an ssd only system but for large capacity ssds even qlc is still unreasonably more expensive than hdds.. considering this and how bad they perform under certain workloads i guess i'll just wait and see how samsungs new gen qlc drives perform once they are out.. if they get a little better and a lot cheaper then yeah i might do it.. for now i keep the hdds..

Third asus laptop and dealing with support is a nightmare, probably going to be the last one I buy from them. I have, I copied almost 6TB of data to my 8TB array, I've copied parts of my game testing library to several of these. Those are fairly rare events and they tend to slow down to various degrees on all the drives. It is worth noting that you need 2 drives to really see the speed, but the real world, the random is where it's at. IMHO

@@TechDeals I bought cheap Sandisk SSD once, got 2TB at first. But then I realised sequential write drops below 90MB/s after about 30GB write in. I got another one and did RAID1 (still slow). I have a Micron NVMe SSD. The speed drop below 200 MB/s after the cache is filled. However, I can fill my 860 EVO entirely without seeing much drop in speed(consistently over 300MB/s). Most of SSD speed test is test of the cache. The real speed of the TLC NAND is not obvious.

Very informative and thorough explanation. Personally, I would've liked a little more explanation on the queue depth and thread count for the benchmarks. You explained it quite thoroughly already, such as queue depth thirty-two, thread count one is heavy workload, queue depth one, thread count one is more reflective of real world use, etc, but I'm sure some people are curious, what number of queue depth and thread count is typical for various/different tasks, such as general web browsing, gaming, image/video editing and maybe multi-tasking a mix of these in general. Also, like the Sabrent Rocket being competitive, I think the EX920 (also a TLC SSD like the Rocket) at it's current price is equally as competitive, being at around $120 for 1 TB, although I have seen the price dip to $100 in the past, which actually made it far more appealing than the 660p at $95 at the same time, but the price has gone up to $120 now, so, it's not quite the same any more. And while Sabrent is a smaller brand and lesser known, the EX920 is by HP, which is much bigger and has been around for a long time, so in terms of performance, having a name and being cheap, it has all three, so I think that makes it very appealing and competitive in this regard. Just wanted to throw this out there, as you might look into it and use it for future SSD benchmark videos.

Did the same thing. I'm going to use it for at least 8 years and I just want to feel safe. What is 60 bucks on a 1tb drive just for the ease of mind? I find it worth it. @@NK_Customs tests prove that most nvme (and ssds too) can easily double or more on the life span, but it's mostly the controller that gives up. The chip that handles where your data needs to go warms up high and often gives up first. Samsung builds the best and does it all in house. Not saying the corsair is bad and won't hold on as long, just that the Samsung ones have proven themselves over and over.

Like you said in your other videos, for most people, no difference will be seen. Any NVME drive will be faster than any drive you have ever had before. And even a standard 2.5" Sata SSD are amazing, even for boot drives. But, you can get 500/512gb NVME drives for as low as $42 (I just got a WD Blue SN550 for this price). So, if your mobo has an NVME slot, mine as well use it!

The Sabrent Rocket has a five year warranty, if you register it on their website, which doesn't take long. One year if you don't. The 1TB version is rated at 1665 TBW. Its performance drops off with writes greater than 16GB, which is low for a 1TB NVMe drive, but for most users, that isn't a problem. However, please check your videos and dialog more thoroughly before uploading. I’d say these are at an 7/10 for quality and 9.5/10 for content. You have a handful of misspoken lines and names which cause the informed watcher to chuckle. I know these are small errors like saying “Samsung P1” or having the wrong definition of the AHCI acronym while the correct one was over-layed on screen. Or saying most modern games are 100TB instead of 100GB. Little things. This is just constructive criticism as I really enjoy your videos and want you to keep expanding your youtube reach. I witnessed these slowdowns with 2GB files.. when the drives become more full this problem increases exponentially to where files with 500MB would transfer at only 30-50MB/s sometimes much slower. for $10 swapping out to a Samsung EVO I never again had these issues.. (I also need to state samsung do have drivers for their drives!!!) which is a good thing i guess.. I cannot comment on other brands... But i think its the whole QLC thing..
