Informative and helpful demonstration. A little hard to hear some parts with the background noise. The fans and other equipment are obviously important but it might help a lot to turn that off just while recording. Thanks for sharing this knowledge! It's one thing to read about a technique but much better to watch someone actually do it.

Thanks for this, my large now orange pickling cucumber has been staring at me for a week, now I can properly save the seed (didn't know you needed to ferment like tomato seeds) and remember don't leave them too long or they will start to sprout

How exciting! Once the seeds are completely dried, they shouldn't be sprouting. One key is proper seed storage. To keep seeds viable, they should be stored in a dark, cool, dry place. We have more detailed information about seed storage in this article from our website: seedsavers.org/storing-seeds/. Happy seed saving!

Why do you have to ferment them? Why can’t you just dry them?

Good question! The seeds of cucumbers are enclosed in a jelly-like casing. In order to process the seeds for saving, fermentation just helps to break this coating down so it can be more easily removed.
