This is how ALMOST EVERY CHARACTER should play this match up. Gief is a grappler and needs to be close to you in order to win so it makes sense that you want to keep your distance while playing against him.

GoDoBeastBro Exactly. Infiltration counter-picked because he knew Akuma was more likely a worse matchup for Gief (which was also evident from this years Evo against Tokido). Infiltration used his match-up knowledge to wisely avoid that. He's not a one-dimensional player that only sticks with one character and thinks hes just going to win everything with that alone. He has proven this more than once already: Evo 2013 Hakan vs PR Rog, and Ryu in many instances. Also, if you actually studied the match at all, Infiltration superbly outfootsied Snake Eyez at his own game. Watch how he maintains his distance outside of any threat from Gief, and then watch how he punishes him for it. Excellent spacing there. His use of fireballs was also superb here. As Seth Killian mentioned, he literally bled Zangief to death. Infiltration played this set perfectly. He deserved the win.

Looking back at this old fight I have to say that Infiltration sucked against Snake Eyez...🤷🏾‍♂️.. his strategy was simply to make Him jump and get a possible anti-air or normal foot sweep or even medium kick but that's it no combos or skill ..just a Zoning match... Now of course it's ZANGIEF and u don't wanna be too close but u can still get some combos in as ONI against even the best of ZANGIEFs... To spam fireballs is to me the weakest way to play 🤷🏾‍♂️... But again this is an old video and tensions may have been high as well as nervousness and who knows if infiltration really needed the money 💰...but just off skill alone...he was lackluster during this fight

Infiltration is a good player but for that very reason i do not rate him. Why counter pick? I do not rate that from top players which is why i respect tokido, poongko, momochi, fuudo and the beast daigo. I don’t respect infiltration at all.
