SSG 747-8 for XP12 (Latest BETA) - Is it still AWFUL?

The 747-8 was the first module I ever bought for XP11 - and it was really REALLY bad... about 18 months later SSG released v2 of the same aircraft, for the same game, and had the cheek to charge for it. I was dumb enough to pay for it (I had high hopes from the PMDG "Queen of the Skies" FSX)... Oh no what a let down....
Fast forward 30 months brings us to today, and I have the latest BETA of which I am to fly for the first time.

SSG - SERIOUSLY sort this out. I am gonna leave this (SSG 747 "anniversary edition" v2.6 b4) stream/disaster on youtube UNTIL you fix this POS... I realise I got a bit animated in the final section, but I wasted an hour to figure out this aircraft is UNFLYABLE

i have had nothing but issues with this aircraft the fms and auto pilot system goes haywire and in my opinion the betas should be addressing these issues. very frustrating

Damn lol, never expected that ending. Good video, I can understand your frustration HOWEVER, I can say that the addon has gotten a bit better in the last 7 months and I never had any problems with it so I don't understand how people hate it so much, can you please do another review soon?

From a real life 7478 pilot, when you start you need to manage the pneumatics. Packs off, normal start 4 & 3, then 1 & 2. Wait until stabilized until starting the other 2. Fuel control switch can go on 10 seconds after start switch.

Thanks for this comment. I always like when real life pilot throws in some tid bit, that is either gotten right, or overlooked in the sim. Unfortunately the SSG 748 is one of the worst examples of a realistic aircraft in xplane, and has a very shallow depth of simulation. We have a great 742 (classic) and there's a really good PMDG "queen of the skies" but they made it for an older sim that's no longer supported.

I'll agree with you on this hot mess. It's a real treat when you're ON your nav line with the waypoint 5nm dead ahead and LNAV cuts off saying "not on intersect hdg"... huh?? Or when you're on short final and all of a sudden the plane decides to take a 45* turn and dive 7000 fpm and throw the throttles to full. Disconnecting auto-throttle works only for a few minutes, but it seems to re-engage on it's own -- but behind the scenes, with the switch still off and the A/T disconnect warning lit. Great video!

If you want a good 747 use the Felis 747-200. I had the SSG 747-8 V1 it was a dissapointment back then and it is still one even with V2.

The speed break lever being in the way of the FMC is very frustrating 😮

I bought V1 and just noticed the have a XP12 version, v1 was horrible! Glad to see somone reviewed this one before I thought of buying it.

By clicking The Switch is more easyly to sync the switch, when do the Sharing Cockpit.

Yeah I don’t understand SSG. This is the ONLY airplane I have that doesn’t work with better pushback and the SSG team’s response is….”It’s a better pushback problem not ours”…..yeah that attitude sums it up. And YES I know about setting up the hydraulics first! To end this on a good note, if SSG ever reads this... I do have to say, I have recently had several problem free long-hauls so this product has come a long way! Beijing-JFK, HKG-ANC-ORD, LUX-JFK, all have gone well, so there for sure have been A LOT of improvements. GG SSG!...but PLEASE fixe the GLARING issues left! lol

Well for a start your start up was completely wrong I've flown this more then ever all 4 engines work and it flys amazing probably one of the best 747s I've flown

Your APU GEN 2 was off for your engine start up. And for your ZFW, you should press the GW/ CRZ CG button on the perf unit page. Top of your Plan fuel.

Flight Factor really needs to build a good 747... the Sparky and SSG really aren't the quality that I want in a 747. or at least FF should assist SSG in the systems modeling.

I have flown the SSG 747-8 for thousands of miles hoping to understand it. I left it for a while because the flight systems were shockingly poor. Just trying another flight from Boston to Gatwick. 6 hours into flight and less than an hour to TOD, then systems start messing about for no reason at FL370. WTF…! Nothing but drama. It’s still s**t in Feb 2023. AVOID this aircraft. The systems are rubbish. It’s a waste of money as you will be disappointed ☹️

I find with the SSG once you cycle the engine start on off, it just won’t work.

you need a navigraph subscription (which costs money unfortunately). It's where all the nav charts come from as well, so it depends how much you fly the sims, as to if it's worth your while or not
