Hey Bryan, i’m confused here. You’re title says open water skills, but: 1) wearing you’re alternate on a necklace is not in the open water course. 2) SSI says you need to grab you’re regulator by the hose, not covering the purge button by your hand. 3) as far as I know now, recovering you’re regulater by the hose is not a part of the open water course. Not to criticize, but only going by the title. When I do my own dives, I wear my alternate on a necklace. But on the trajectory to become SSI instructor ( still a long way to go 😉) I have to do the OW skills by the book and got confused. Thanks for the amazing educational videos! I get a lot out of them. Keep up the great work!

Hello @amazingtazz1579, glad you liked our video. With SSI we have what is called the flexibility rule in teaching. No two SSI Instructors teach the same way. The key to teaching a skill is to make sure a student can perform a skill in a manner that is safe and consistent. The configuration of a scuba system has nothing to do with the skill itself. Many divers choose to set their systems up in different ways, and will even choose to perform a skill different from the next as well. During your SSI Instructor Training Course (known as the ITC), you will learn all the skills that are required by standards to conduct a course. There are also skills that are optional as well. Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.
