Thank you - exactly what I wanted. A realistic opinion / perspective from someone who actually works with it. I have enjoyed playing with one, but finally I felt like I was not gaining much. Logic is great as it is, and especially with a few choice plugins. The UC1 is a superb piece of equipment, no question; absolutely flawless in operation, and the bus compressor - easy to see why people love it! For now though Im staying with a standard DAW. Keeping the buss compressor!

Good video - well done -----. You have a good style and are organized. Good production values. It is a great unit. SSL did a great job. I really like what SSL has been doing. I have a Fusion, Bus+, Big Six, UF8 and UC1. I use them as a mixing/mastering station in my studio.

This was a great review of the SSL UC1, I agree if someone has had the privilege of working on an SSL and loves that work flow, this is a way of having a piece of that in a smaller setup or studio, especially if you add a UF8 with the new 360 software updates.

As for the price, it now inlcudes three pieces of software. The new one is the 4kB channel strip, which is designed to add color and analog distortion in multiple ways. Considerting the cost of the software, the UC1 with the software is a very good price.

I’m still bummed that uc1 doesn’t allow tracks selection to follow from uf8 , what also bugs me is that I have to select the native ssl channel strip plug in from The daw tracks to be able to see what I’m doing , Such a shame . I really hope ssl fixes this . It’s a pain to have to grab the mouse , and select the plug in each time I want to make a change to a track using the ssl Channel strip 2 plug in . It makes more sense imo if selecting the track on the uf8 or uc1 would bring up the channel I’m working on , vs having to manually select each and every time . Might as well just stick to using the damn mouse for the entire time .

I'm considering the UC1 also. I think its well worth it because I need the SSL Native Channel Strip 2 & the SSL Native Bus Compressor 2 which are a total $660 & an additional $440 for the hardware. I also don't want to look at the screen as much as possible and use my ears more when mixing so this would come in handy. Not to mention the efficient workflow I would gain from using the tactile hardware.

I did not think about the price point like that but you nailed it. The 2 Compressors sounds awesome and the EQ Strips is legendary as you know. 🙏 Stay Up!!!

Great review and workflow. I love how you solo the sidechain to hear what your doing. It sounds great too. I have also been looking into the SSL 50O series rack module hardware as it is expandable...you can add eq pultecs, ssl e and g, and more. I am thinking it would a great set up/workflow/sound before or after my pre. Still researching. Thanks for the great reviews!

...there are different racks you can use with the modules all 500 series...some racks by rupert neve, midas, and more depending on what you want or budget. Checkout Vintage Kings pro audio outfitter. The exploration continues.

@@_TheModernCreative The TMT and THD. And the sound and character is what I prefer. I have a lot of Ssl channel strips. Oxford Native,Waves,IK,BX. But my favorite SSL 4K is by Oxford. It has a 3D thing to it that others don't. My opinion of course🙂

Nice video. I am considering buying the UC1. Question please. Would you say the EQ is musical and has a positive effect that is noticeable? I ask because some channel strips I have heard demos of you can barely hear any difference in the EQ curve and it is either very very subtle or not even audible to a large extent. I would like to hear the EQ in a similar fashion as if I was still mixing on an analog console. I don't expect to be exactly like a console, but it would be nice if the changes can be heard in a positive way and you can hear the EQ changes. Thanks and nice detailed video. Phil NYC Area

From my estimation, this is a very colorful EQ and not transparent in the slightest. I have an API Analog EQ and almost everything I do on it sounds good so I would say this is very much like that. I should also mention that I have never mixed with an actual SSL console so hopefully another member here has some great input for us. Cheers!!!

@@_TheModernCreative Thanks for that info Eddie. It is appreciated and very helpful. You pretty much nailed the topic I was looking for as I am NOT looking for a super transparent EQ and do indeed want something that can add some color and personality when wanted. I never mixed on an SSL either, but was used to for many years using a large format D&R inline modular console. Thanks! Phil

Found a solution to track follow , if I put the uf8 into plug in mode and have the ssl channel strip on the first slot of each channel , I can select track on uf8 and it will follow to uc1 and daw . Still an extra step , but better then mouse i suppose , cheers.

Next level!!! Thank you for sharing. Are you happy with the UF8? I think that’s my next purchase
@MurdaMetz
@MurdaMetz 2 жыл бұрын
@@_TheModernCreative Definitely, the uf8 is very handy especially when setting levels of each track . I like to start with the faders down and push them up one at a time until each track sounds the way I would expect , you can write volume automation which is handy , footswitch for rec/ playback . And the quick key commands you can create are really next level . It takes a little time getting used to but for things like creating marker , new tracks , new busses , ect really does save time when it comes to mixing a song together , recording , and editing your mix . What I don’t like about the uf8 is the channel mode which imo doesn’t really offer anything that can’t be done in plug in mode , or automation mode . I can careless about the light show when the uf8 starts up also . No Off / on switch . Other then that these faders are high quality , and really does make a diff in ones over all workflow , for the win .

No numbers around the knobs defeat the purpose of having a board if u gotta look at the pc screen
@_TheModernCreative
@_TheModernCreative 2 жыл бұрын
I think they call this tech an “infinity knob”. On paper it seems pointless but once you use it on several tracks, you can clearly see the application across several instances. The numbers are replaced by light guides that adjust as you switch between channel strips, it’s actually pretty clever given the limitations of the size and the fact that you are only using 1 unit. I got used to it but I get what you mean. Cheers!

@@_TheModernCreative ok I ordered one , a lot of good reviews . Thank you :) I’ll post back my thoughts after some time with the uc1 . I own the uf8 and it’s def useful , so I’m expecting the uc1 to be in the same ballpark .

Hello again , ordered both uf8 and uc1 , one thing that pains me is that when selecting a track on uf8 it doesn’t follow on to the uc1 unfortunately . I have to select the track using the mouse or a encoder knob on the uc1 which is an extra step .
