SSL UF8 Control Surface with FL Studio [TURN CAPTIONS ON!]

I like the UF8 but until SSL pulls their finger out and offers some home-grown compatibility then I think other choices might be better. Older models like the Behringer X-Touch and Mackie's own Control Surfaces have a more mature level of support. Meanwhile the new Icon controllers look good but have yet to really prove themselves with FL Studio, compatibility - wise.

Update: I can now confirm that the UF8 does work on FL Studio when the 360 software is set as “Studio One”. 👍🏻☺️

Sorry Richard, I meant to revisit this and show my setup but have been tied up with other things. Glad you have it operating. I think there are further opportunities to get more out of the UF8 with the FL Scripting language so we will hopefully see things get better and better in the short term (until SSL improve compatibility themselves, should they decide this to be important for them)

Me too, set the UF8 in ssl 360 to the studio one profile, and on fl studio choose mackie control universal for controller type, set the INPUT and OUTPUT port numbers to the same value 102 an it work well, but i have 2 uf8 and the 2nd is not a continuation of the first because in fl studio, the controller type "Mackie Control Extender" does not exist, and it is exactly this one that is recommended in the ssl 360 software to set the second uf8 in cascade with the first Do you have a solution for me?

what is the difference between the different daws that one can choose? are any of them better for fl studio? and why?

@@ov-beats05 Hey mate, I'm asking if it worked on FL because basically SSL's 360 software didn't have a preset function which included FL Studio, it has everything else like Studio One, Logic etc. So I wasn't sure if it was compatible. It does work basically, but not to the best of it's ability on Studio One mode. Faders, cut, solo and scroll work, but a lot of the other buttons are useless. However, the functions mentioned work for me cos that's all I wanted my UF8 to do, for basic mixing and control. :)

only me that can't pan when you have set the uf8 to logic? and does anyone know how to stop the uf8 to start over again when you have come to track 125? I would like it to lust stop at 125 and not continue

I like the idea of it . My logitech ergo trackball mouse does the trick. I treat my scroll wheel as a fader controller.

I played around with a surface dial and a peice of software called "Elephant" but it boils down to a lack of distractions (having to do something different) while composing and the UF8, as a single device, is quite compelling

The X-Touch is very well supported by FL Studio and you should have no concerns if you are thinking of using it. That said, ithe Icon QCOn Pro X is also similarly well supported but having the second display has really helped with my work flow (upcoming video)

Hey mister Walker, nice video first of all. I also use fl studio and want to buy 4 of these UF8's.. but how many layers has one uf8, I mean you see 8 faders so if I have 4 of these I can use 32 faders but does that mean I can only mix 32 channels in fl studio? And what about the master channel in fl studio? Thanks in advance.

No, you can bank through all the faders. personally, I think 2 UF8s with 16 tracks works the best as it will bank 16 tracks at a time (instead of 8 which is the default). That said, I would love to see how you get on with 4 UF8s :-)

@@ianwalker2258 Well 4x UF8 is my option, but do you think 2x UF8 and 1 UF1 is also good? Because these are the two combi's I am hesitating about. What do you think in general? because I am watching so much tutorials about the gear and read on the ssl website the differences.. but still hesitate 😀 So what is your opinion or what would you choose?

While I like the idea of having a "32 track studio" I have found that 16 bankable tracks is less fussy and it is easier to get the job done - so that would be my choice (I use an SSL Nucleus 2 )

Wht preset u used to set with FL Studio??? I used the Reasons or Studio One. I'm suprise the SSL UF8 doesn't have a user default preset.

Most of the Mackie based presets work and cover all the basics but some have a different scribble strip layout which might suggest a preference for you.

For supported daws there are walk throughs in the manual (and videos online) but it really is super easy these days :-)

How you get your fader to sync up what preset or settings you use?

Quick question. Both the logic and studio profiles suddenly made it to where when I move a fader on the uf8 it moves the fader in FL but the fader on UF8 snaps back to original position like the motors possessed. I switched to the Cubase profile and for now it solved the problem. But I'm not sure why it's doing this. Any ideas or tips would be great appreciated. Much respect. Cheers

@@ianwalker2258naw, that’s annoying cause if you have 20 inserts already set up and the uf8 says track 1-20 that’s a pretty big problem
