Ladies and gentleman, this is by far the best mixer on youtube. There is levels to everything, but Marc is at the very top of this craft. Everyone that wants to become a good mixer, watch every single video he puts up and rewatch it over and over again. Once you get half as good as he is, you're already a fantastic mixer. I knew it the minute I saw him mix a hiphop track. It's nothing overly fancy, convoluted or tricky, but everything has purpose and everything sounds just right. I said as much before, but this is art and I feel like I am witnessing greatness, when I watch Marc mix. I don't say this kind of stuff about many people. I've seen a lot of stuff on the internet, but this is the only real super high level mixer showing actual real work being done. Not even the "Mixed by Ali" stuff can touch this. Noone does this better. Also the presentation is out of this world. Congrats Mr. Marc Daniel Nelson on another ball knocked way out of the park. I think I am your #1 fanboy. I hope you keep this stuff coming. It's truly epic and I enjoy everything you show us so much. Thanks for doing it!

yesterday I took the plunge and ordered a UF8 so I am watching this video with great interest. The level of detail that Mark gets is amazing and emotion is the perfect (the only) word for it. wow.

I worked at the studio in Salt Lake years ago. The talent in Salt Lake is very underrated with its musical talent. This recording studio and these musicians have done so much work for TV that everyone watching this in the US has probably heard this sympathy before and never known it.

I’m getting ready to learn mixing with Dolby Atmos spatial audio. I usually mix automation manually as a DIY musician. I’ll have to start saving for UF8! Excellent inspiration video. Thank you!

He is a gem and a great person. Still can't believe that he accepted the job to mix and master my whole album even though I am just a small home studio artist.

Great video. Would it be possible to use the UF8 faders to record MIDI CC? For example; Using the first two faders to record MIDI CC1 and CC11?

If you mean to automate expression for instance, yes this will work. I tried it on a Spitfire Audio string sample (ala Christian Henson) it worked perfectly!

Only if ssl would have fused this with the xdesk before I bought it… for the perfect analog and digital marriage in a home portable rig, instead i had to pick up the avid dock and a S3 for my daw control along with my analog side of things xdesk/xrack/this is a nice little unit however for mixing should have had a dedicated transport and jog wheel though. Mark has to be related to Kate McKinnon on SNL….lol

Yeah, so much hype with that UF8. All though it's one of the best HUI controllers I have seen... Still, when it comes to Pro Tools, nothing else beats the S1 series. The DAW integration is so much better, especially combined with the AVID control app... I don't get it, why a mixing engineer at his level, would prefer using a HUI controller. Also why he seems so grateful and almost surprised to discover, how useful it is to work with a controller... Not a criticism, just curious. 😄

@@lydfar2392 I have the UF8/UC1 system and struggled with the S1 vs SSL before buying. For me it came down to the added expense of the tablets. I know you don't really need them, but they're nice to have. I just didn't want to have to buy one or two additional iPad's (or Samsung tablets) and a network switch to complete the system. I also spoke with a lot of users, and some had complaints about connection issues - be it the tablets to the S1, or the S1 units themselves to the computer. A few experienced network dropouts that would occur during a mix and the only fix was a system restart. Granted, this isn't everyone's experience, but my UF8 has been nothing but rock solid and I'm glad I chose it. I still have some Avid S1 envy from time to time, but my UF8 allows me to get projects finished and it doesn't get in the way. The HUI spec hasn't limited me at all.

Do you really use that ssl usb interface? i actually ended up here from their site while debating on purchasing it. i was offord one for $100 usd and you can clearly afford a much more expensive interface just by trading a piece of gear if you wanted so, is it THAT good? BTW, your setup is beyond my dream room. that desk is a masterpiece bro
