Congrats on the new piglets! Can I mention that the heat lamp is not needed as your barn in well protected and just provide lots of dry straw/hay and the piglets will snuggle under it for warmth. I've raised piglets in Minus freezing temps with no problems with the piggies. Also for your safety I would recommend to NOT pick up or handle the piglets with the mother sow in there or you are asking to be severely injured. Best to leave her be. Don't ask how I know...Pigs do not give any warning when they attack.

I've had AGH farrow outside in the pouring rain in the mid-40s like it was nothing lol. That hay stall is like a hotel.

My Sow is getting ready to farrow. I am really trying not to over think the hog pen situation. I too have American Guinea Hogs. We are approaching bitter cold nights soon. I really do not want to do the heat lamp. I had one burn my barn down last Spring. I may lean toward a heating pad they use in aquariums for snakes and lizards. Do you have any suggestions you can share with me. Thank you. Jerry from Pine Meadows Hobby Farm.

Pig mamas can really be agressive After they have pigglets. Hope she stays sweet. And not get agressive.
@priestesslucy3 жыл бұрын
I've never seen this breed get agressive over they're babies unless you pick it up and it starts squealing. Matter of fact my boar was usually more protective than the sows lol

How many males do you have to breed? Do you have the dad mate with his babies?
@SSLFamilyDad4 жыл бұрын
We keep one male. And, no, we do not line breed (having parents mate with offspring or direct relatives)
