Yep. Right at the end when you hit the finish line, press the X to exit the group. It'll ask if you don't want the ribbon and want to leave, say Yes. :) Hope it helped!

Pretty sure when the champ was saying "Picking groups" or whatever, they must've sent someone a group request and the person declined. Thus they were alone in a group, and the game read it as them being assigned

It's easy to fake such a thing. There is many servers in different countries where no one does the championships. So if the "glitch" is to join a server where no one does the championships, thats not a glitch.
