Many people use the ice anchors to hold down their shacks, but when you watch the videos the ice cracks into many pieces near the surface,...my tip is to pre-drill a hole where you plan on putting the ice anchor, it only takes a second and very little to no ice breakage. Much, much easier!

Came here to say this. A few pilot holes and the bit to drive the anchors works a treat. The time it takes to change the bits and drill the pilot holes is nothing compared to how quick the anchors drive in afterwards vs cracking with no pilot hole.

I'm 65 and been ice fishing my whole life and with your hacks it shows that you can always learn new things. I live on lake Erie in Michigan and love the waleye, perch and pike fishing here. My wife and I flew to Saint Paul this year for the ice show and I would have liked to talk with you. Maybe next year and I could share a few of my Hacks

I'm with you on the construction. I use white friction/hockey tape as it allows me to print the line test and date it. "I wonder if this memory trick is a sign of someone who may have too many fishing rods? Maybe. Shhh!" I enjoy the videos muchly. Thanks.

Eh pro and cons ..kinda gotta plan on leaving the same reel on for ever because the tape tears up the rod. Especially on cork

I use castrating rings for my rods. Cheap. I also bought the tool to install them. $30 for the tool. $5 for 100 rings. No sticky residue left on rod if you want to change reels for any reason.

I use KVD line conditioner on mono and floro line after it’s been on reel awhile. Really helps control line memory and twist. Spray bottle last five or six years.

Buy a rod with a reel seat. You spend 60-100 bucks on a custom rod and then tape the reel on? Throw that mono line away for walleye and use one of the superlines, no line memory and tie a 12-18" of flouro on the superline.

You need to check out S2B ice anchors. They are amazing and quick set up. Been using them for a couple years and wouldn’t use anything else. Also it’s a little ma and pa shop in Iowa. So made in the USA

Rescue tape is what I’ve been using for many years,, has different brand names, but as many already know, it’s a tape that only sticks to itself. If all else fails..electrical tape is a no brainer… which brings up another conversation… why do you need to have an ice rod without an actual reel seat.. I’m 57 and been ice fishing my whole life. I prefer the ice rods that I have with reel seats.. grip sensitivity is overrated.

Been ice fishing for 50 yrs! 3m elec. tape is still the deal! Hockey tape and fiberglass tape loosens up. Elec. tape you can stretch and make it incredibly tight. It doesn't loosen up and you don't have to mess with it again. Period!
