Australian alco unit 602 (600 class) - with its V12 - 251c engine, plenty of soot and noise for you alco fans!
Gopro9 with media mod (mic filter not attached hence the wind) mounted via rare earth magnet on the long end of 602.

Ahh the 251c. The engine that Alco SHOULD have built in the early 40's if they'd have had their quality control in order. Nothing chugs dirty like a good old Alco! Awesome video as always! -Shane from Texas

@@vincentweatherly9991 Right but i'm referring to the V12 diesels. Before the 251c Also made the 244. And even though it was an excellent design it was a DISASTER due to very poor quality control leading to massive amounts of locomotives having to go in for major repair in the 40's. This pretty much ruined Alco's reputation to the point of being irreparable. The 251 is basically a "244H" engine. Which has all the quality issues resolved. Unfortunately it was too late to save Alco. EMD had leapt forward with the massive success of their 2-stroke locomotives like the GP7

Yeah they certainly have a unique sound, unfortunately I did not get to hear them at all growing up as Almost all of our Victorian Railways locomotives were 2 stroke EMD’s they seem to be a bit more friendly on the ears too and no wonder these slow revving engines last so long as when their flat out they’re rpm’s are just over idle speed on your average auto lol, but again another really beaut and enjoyable film, thankyou! 👌
@ThePaulv12
@ThePaulv12 2 жыл бұрын
It's all about piston speed. Slow revving engines can have similar piston speed as a 19,500rpm 250cc motorcycle engines. One has a 11" stroke the other has a 1.4" stroke. It is far more about stroke length than RPM. (it is true that loco engines are slow revving and have comparatively slow piston speeds, but we won't worry about that will we?? LOL)

There's always a saying that GE is an ALCo in modern days. Well, I think, that's not true. See, ALCo had more special things in it. Yes, the dimensions of the engine are identical to 7FDLs, but, there's things that GE don't have from ALCo... The manly chugging noise and turbine-whistling in one single time. GE meanwhile, did chugging and whistling, but it is nearly not sounding at all, so, it is a different thing.

Goodday Adam, Great to hear the old Alco barking, rolling coal. With all the environmental movement going on around the world atm, the day of the fossil fuel burners are numbered sad but true. Saw this combo I think at Emerald Grain on Tuesday. By the looks of it the journey is heading north empty. Was that Seymour Train Station you barreling through. The last 600 class in the world look after her. Any chance she will lead anytime soon. Best looking long hood flat top in Australia. Cheers Louis 👍
