This was great! and answering your question about what I think is "even being modernized in a sense of worldly utopia, the dissatisfaction remains there because of the end result which is "Death". Death is what seems the end of everything if one doesn't believe in the hereafter.

"Money is the key driving force here and not the individual well-being." So profound yet a bitter pill to swallow.

Focusing only on this world has made westerners sad and dissatisfied. There's a perhaps subconscious feeling that the quest to create a paradise on earth has been a failure. Despite all this wealth we are unsettled and unhappy, feeling something is missing. I think that it is these emotions that make nihilism so attractive to people. The trouble is we keep trying to fix this problem with the ideas that caused it. Anyway I am reminded of king Solomon's words from the book of Ecclesiastes : "All is vanity". The biblical King Solomon had everything a man could want, vineyards, women, palaces, power. And yet in the book of Ecclesiastes he is profoundly sad, declaring everything he has as vanity. The only thing which brings him solace is knowledge of his Lord. He went down this path thousands of years ago, yet we chose not to learn from him.

Christian oppressors > Secularism (Consumerism, Nihilism and the Major one is Capitalism); the concept of GDP is so superficial and vague defining the development of any country. It does not fulfill the individuals need. The capitalistic system is based on human desires NOT the NEED. ISLAM IS BASED ON HUMANS' NEED NOT THE DESIRE AS IT CAN NEVER BE FULFILLED.

Answer: *"As for the one who turns away from My message, he shall have a straitened life, and We shall raise him blind on the Day of Judgment." Quran 10: 124* Without God there is no objective morality. This is something the most prominent atheists have admit to like Sartre in his famous quote, "without God, everything is permissible". Morality is reduced to a mere opinion and therefore it logically follows that moral choices become meaningless and trivial. This leads to nihilism.

As salamu alaikum, even in the period of enlightenment we can see completly opposite perspectives about the world around us, and how we as human beings should actively participate more in boosting the productivity in every aspect of the dunya, while the hereafter is being put aside. Now, in my humble opinion, the nihilism is one of the extremes or to say one of the side effects a person can go to while having only dunya as his main objective in life, while in the same time having less and less knowledge and interest to study religion itself and why is it important for any human being. When discussing religion as the other side, I hate to admit but even in my country which is populated mostly by muslims, there is an another extreme present, and that is the complete ignorance toward the productivity in this world, in any shape, state or form by some certain groups of muslims. Although even in the modern era it still seems as the global economic movement and mindset is in the conflict with the religion itself, and while new generations have lesser contact in the family with the true meanings of the religion, we can witness how nihilism, atheism and agnosticism in being born. Again, this is the case study of my country which may be different in the other parts of the world. Only by studying religion (in this case Islam, I will be more specific) and its true roots and purposes in ones life we can actually see how religion and moder economic thoughts aren't in that big conflict. Yes, the interest-based business activities are forbidden, yes, sexualy explicit marketing is forbidden, yes, lying and manipulating clients and business partners is forbidden as well, but the morality and ethics that islam teaches in bussiness can be and will be the competitive adventage for the company that implements it. Even by looking at personal level, islamic belief and methods are such a relief for any person going through hard times in any aspect of the life, which can as well mean economic prosperity if we look it from that point of view. To conlude, religion and this worlds matters are not mutually exclusive, by only looking at the dunya there is no progress for the soul and afterlife which is decribed as horizontal line (-), by only considering religion we have afterlife but many hardships in this life which is described as vertical line (I). Only by merging these two factors we can have both worlds and good life in both worlds which I will describe as the merged plus sign (+).

materialism also dangerous for Muslims we are gating away from deen and try to justify material life with quran and sunnah.
