Eric that was special. You're a special human being and what Paula and yourself have done with TTL is AMAZING. I was on course and saw the TTL kits out there. I got to see you come out of the water right before my start. I just want to sincerely say thank you for all of your inspiration and hard work. Your creativity is unmatched.

Don't underestimate the power of vulnerability when it comes to truly connecting with an audience that is here because we are invested in you and Paula as human beings. Watching you wrestle with your future in the sport that you love so much is absolutely heart-wrenching. What I will say is this: don't focus on the long view when you are injured, it is too easy to cloud the issue and feel despondent. You and Paula have built a great community and skillset that will ensure that WHEN it's time to hang it up, you are not only financially stable, but likely still connected to the sport you love. You are in your "dark" era in Triathlon (for lack of a better term). I can't think of a single top tier pro that hasn't gone through a year or two struggling with injury and not being able to quite put the pieces together. And most of them have come back to transcend with astounding performances! I'm sure Paula can empathize better than most! You'll come out of this, your body wants you to back off a bit, so be it. Usually when you give it what it wants, it will repay the favor. I get it, you only get so many years in Tri before you have to yield to the new blood, so patience is not a luxury professionals can often have, but it IS often rewarded. Have fun this year, play on dirt, make great art, and heal. We will be here cheering you on the whole time! ❤

Beautiful video, Eric. Your monologue was infinitely better than race footage. I know you don't know how many more left you have in you, but I hope they are fulfilling and you enjoy every last one of them. It's been a privilege being able to enjoy the sport through your eyes.

Eric, I’ve never commented on a single video on KZbin, but I’m 53 and I’ve had four hip arthroscopy operations since I was 35. I still ride, I still pretend I’m fit (compared to most I suppose I am), but if there was one thing I’d say it’s to embrace the future. Yes, you get a little fatter and in my case, my hair fell off my head and seemingly stuck to my body! What you film with the channel is superb, stay positive and enjoy what time you have racing. Most of us would love to have your talent, even with the dodgy hip!

Eric, I know you’re not a fan of the “monolouges”, but I have to tell, I like these the best. You’re just such a natural storyteller and it’s easy to get caught up with the story. My favourite videos are the ones, where you combine beautiful shots with your storytelling in the background.

Eric, in looking at all the other comments I cannot say anything new. I am 72 years old now and have had two total hip replacements, the last one being in June, 2022. The surgeon told me my "running days" are over and they are. In spite of that I, along with my daughter who will be racing in the XTERRA Championship category, will be at OMSP in two weeks attempting to do the Sprint event. I have always managed to be on the podium at the XTERRA races I have done since 2013 but I am quite certain that I will be the last one crossing the finish line. And you know what, that will be okay.

Haha yea dude, seat coolers / seats with ventilation are money when you get in your car after a workout. Although you may not see racing the same way as the years have ticked by, your involvement has sparked thousands, across all generations. At the end of the day, you have a lot to be thankful for my friend, and what race you do.. or how you perform in a race won't change that. My hope is that ( if you feel your time is starting to diminish) that you race your heart out and take it all in as we cheer you on louder than you thought possible.

I had hip labral surgery last June. Was running by October. Everyone's body responds differently, and I tried (and researched) non-surgcal options for more than a year. My surgeon told me it was less about numeric age, per se, than about how fit/strong an individual is when it comes to recovery. I've never commented before but just wanted to share that. Longtime listener. Not a triathlete but runner, and your podcasts make the lomg trail runs fly by. Best of luck in continuing creative endeavors and the hip!!!
