That's were you said the doveweed was crabgrass, on Facebook. I was confused for a couple weeks after I seen that video because I couldn't find any images of crabgrass that looked like that then I couldn't find the video again. Weeds seem to be bad this year. I take care of my neighbor's yard and she has terrible crabgrass (never been that bad), plus doveweed (which I've never seen in that lawn). The problem is that I don't know what type of grass is in the problem area. I've used a turf identification tool which seems to indicate it's a hybrid Bermuda though it doesn't really look like Bermuda (it spreads with rhizomes and runners). I've never cut it short, always 3.5 inches (I don't think it'll be green at all if I cut it much lower, especially now in the summer). To make things more interesting, she says she sodded centipede about 10 years ago though only small patches are actually centipede (unless there's other radical types of centipede).

you have a salad bar of a different kind! ANd this year has been bad for crabgrass all the way and up into the north too - a super hot summer, prolonged dry spell... then heavy rains bring it up overnight. Blindside is safe for Bermuda too, not sure about centipede though.

Fyi - dove weed has a small purple flower that blooms on end of its stems. Also it clumps up pretty dense and curls downward like berber carpet (loops).fairly easy to notice in lawns.

Basic question... in the north all these weeds like crabgrass are bad because they are annuals so they leave a big hole in the lawn after winter. But in Florida, if they thrive and mix with your desired turfgrass, is that so bad? Thanks

Hi. So I used Blindside to spot treat weeds in my fescue lawn in the Piedmont region of NC (2 weeks ago) and it appears to also be killing my fescue. I used a ratio of 0.1/gal. My lawn guy said it's not the fescue that's dying, but the Poa, but I think he's mistaken. I've seen Poa in other parts of my lawn and it's already sprouted. The grass that's being burned/killed off where I've spot treated has not yet sprouted so that's why I believe it's my fescue that's dying along with the weeds. Any ideas why the fescue might be dying off with the weeds (I've searched online and even called the Blindside manufacturer and can't get a satisfactory answer). And do you have suggestions for what to do next? My understanding is that it's pretty late now to overseed so I'm not sure how to deal what will become open dry spots in my lawn.

Felix Ulloa .15oz per gallon. Do not use a surfactant or spray when temps are above 85. If you're trying to kill doveweed it is preferable to spray after a rain with no chance for irrigation or precipitation for 24hrs.

Water is simply a carrier for the product. its all about product applied over a given area. Your label will specify a range of ounces of product per 1000sqft. You can use lower or high volumes of water with the same amount of product. In the case of Blindside, they recommend 0.5 to 4.0 gallons of water per 1000sqft to carry the product, with higher volumes of water used in dense weed infestations.

In addition to what Geoff said, the bottle is a tip and pour that helps make measuring more simple but make sure you level it carefully. Blindside is very low use product meaning it doesn't take much. lastly, everything you see me doing here is based on 1 gallon covering 1000 SF from a hand can

Really need some help here. I killed my St. Augustine Lawn (well most of it) and a lot of the runners are starting to get new growth. Good sign, really good sign if you saw my lawn. I also am having doveweed problems in the areas where I didn't kill and new doveweed growth in the areas there is no growth. My lawn is obviously stressed and I am afraid if I use blindside it will further damage what I do have or the new growth on the stolons. I have been doing a lot of physical hand pulling but cant keep up. Do I deal with having doveweed until I get more St. Augustine growth back? Will the doveweed snuff out the new growth if not treated? Or do I "Thrower down" (blindside) and beg the new St. Augustine growth not to die? Plan of attack?

@landovsmiz
@landovsmiz 8 жыл бұрын
Hey Shelia, so the best way to apply Fungicide is to have a 3 day period when you're not going to have rain in the forecast. You would apply the Fungicide and water that initial day. Then you would want at least 2 days of no rain or water following the application. Depending on the concentration of Propiconazole in your fungicide you should start seeing results in 14 days. This also depends on what disease and how much of the lawn has been affected already. If you have any questions just give me a call. Allyn has my number in the description of the video.

@TheLawnCareNut

It would depend what your chosen "keeper" turf grass is. If you have fescue invadting Bermuda for example, that would take a different course of action that clumping fescue in bluegrass. If you call Sebastian (linnked in the description) he can help you out for sure. As far as economical, that's really hard to say - the chems may be expensive but at what cost to the overall appearance of the lawn? follow?

Hey Allyn, I do strongly suggest you tell folks that Celsius is only used for Warm Season turfs. I love using Celsius on all my warm season turfs, and dollar for dollar it is the BEST. I also suggest talking about the different rates of use when discussing Celsius. I use it at the mid-high rates as a blanket spray during the May-June time. I like Blindside for all lawns but it does not get more weeds than Celsius, but again Celsius is for only Summer turfs. Especially important for those of us living in zones 7 and higher... Great show!
@TheLawnCareNut
@TheLawnCareNut 8 жыл бұрын
I've had a few questions about this and I guess I thought it was obvious since the title is "St augustinegrass" - as far as the rates, some people thought in the vid that I used too much... I used the high rate of .34 oz/3 gal across 2900 SF. I try to stay away from giving rates on video just for that reason, people need to read the label for themselves and their situation. I'll try to correct in the next video.

yes there is a very good chance of that - anything below 50 degrees will kill it. Now, I have to be honest, I have considered the option- and I think it would be fun to try and grow a doveweed lawn -- but since this is my only lawn and my house, I don't want to try that here.

What weeds are you trying to eradicate and how bad is the infestation? What type of turf? Location? For our Meyer Zoysia we usually add soybean meal w/Milo 2 times a year for feeding and spot spray the weeds. I neglected to apply a preM this year and crabgrass killed me. I'm researching for a fix sorta like you. ;)

Can a hose end sprayer be used with these?

A hose end sprayer is not recommended because you can get to much wind drift and hit things you don't want to spray.

The image in granul form doesn't have a heat restriction. I've been using it in Georgia with decent results in high heat . One pack per gallon of water in a hand can .

For bluegrass you should use a weed control which contains 2,4-d Amine and/or dicamba

+Andrew Fowl blindside uses the chemical metsulfuron-methyl. I think it kills the cool season grasses.
@kennyjohn3774

You can use Blindside. The label has different use rates for the cool season grasses. I know without a doubt, do NOT use Celsius on ANY cool season grasses, unless you want it gone.
@TheLawnCareNut

you should not have doveweed present in a cool season lawn. If you have sedge, then Sedgehammer is your best bet for KBG

Is that dish soap non-ionic?
@TheLawnCareNut
@TheLawnCareNut 8 жыл бұрын
you're over my head there :) I have always used dish soap as a surfactant - that or baby shampoo.
@noah4987
@noah4987 8 жыл бұрын
Second ingredient on that dish soap is SLS, which is an anionic surfactant. Celsius specifically calls for non-ionic. However, the fourth ingredient is Lauramine Oxide which is non-ionic, so it probably did still help, but potentially not quite as much as you were hoping. From the Celsius label: For maximum weed control with broadcast applications, add non-ionic surfactant (NIS) or methylated seed oil (MSO) at recommended rate to the spray solution.

The blindside label mentions surfactants several times and says to not use any, or it is not recommended to use any surfactants due to stunting of the turf. I am wondering if you got any affects on your turf Allyn

You could have put down Ronstar G after plugging and prevented this infestation in the first place. Make sure you can ID the weeds before you start treatment. Don't use dish soap, get an actual sticker/surfactant. Get a backpack sprayer and put a fan nozzle on it and calibrate with the speed you walk for applying proper rate. GPA = (5940*GPM)/(MPH*W) Get turf dye so you can see where you are covering to avoid overlaps and missed spots. Wear rubber boots, I know it won't look cool like your hat but extended direct exposure to herbicides can lead to serious health problems. Both herbicides should be rainfast after 2 hrs, I doubt rainfall of any amount after that will have any negative effect.

I have some years background in working for a professional pest control company. I retired in 2002 here in northwest FL. At that time, I had never seen or heard of Doveweed. It began showing up in my lawn about 5 years ago and has gotten worse every year. This is first year I have decided to tackle it. I have had VA. Buttonweed for years and have been using Celsius on it. I see that Celsius is labeled for Doveweed. Now, the mixture for Celsius is 3.2 grams/gallon in a pump up sprayer. You must have dumped a cup into your sprayer. And if the clear solution was surfactant, you put enough of that in your tank to kill your good grass. One ounce per gallon is max. Last but not least, you talk way too damn much. Most of this video was only filler material with very little of it addressing the problem at hand. Thanks.

It looks about like .56 or so marker on the cap that Celsius comes with, into a 4 gallon backpack. Enough to kill, but be fine...though I've never been brave enough to try on St Augustine. Doveweed and Buttonweed are both indicators of the lawn staying too wet, all the time. .as with sedge. An easy factor would be to allow better drainage and less irrigation Obviously mother nature cant be controlled

Doveweed, I've always referred to it as the shit weed, now I finally know what it's real name is. you've got your hands full with this weed especially when it starts to produce the little purple flower, your big problem will be next year not this year. If you can stop it before the purple flower you have half a fighting chance next year. It"s extremely hard to kill it laughs at Round Up, the only luck that I have had is with atrazine and it almost has to be used at full strength and you're going to damage your turf, it's strange I've been growing Bermuda grass for the last 17 years and I've only notice this weed on my turf and on golf courses within the last 7 years. I just found out about your Channel and just subscribed I have a couple of turf related videos of my own including a backyard putting green construction video. keep up the good work and keep fighting the good fight!

yeah when I look at UofF research apparently this weed has naturalized itself bigtime in the last few years - not sure why. It has not started flowering yet but only because I was cutting it twice per week - which on the flipside is bad because thta encourages lateral growth - not pretty, but fun in a sick sort of way :)
@rotarycomptech
@rotarycomptech 8 жыл бұрын
+The Lawn Care Nut Thanks for replying to my comment! The purple seed head flower is still a few weeks away, you really need to kill it before that happens though if not next year is going to be a real train wreck, you put down a pre-emergent and that didn't stop the doveweed from germinating.It typically dies on its own about a month or so after it seeds out. Unfortunately living in Florida brings about many obstacles prime example the last few days have been nothing but rain in overcast conditions a perfect breeding ground for pythium root rot. I am curious to see how your selective post-emergence control of the dove grass turns out. I have never tried any of those products, I'm afraid you may have to bend the rules a bit to control that weed. I live right here in the Tampa Bay area with you, if you're interested in a small batch of atrazine for free P.M me Good luck Dave
