I fish three triumph rods, a ML and Med. 6'6" spinning and a MH Casting 6'6". Thoroughly enjoy the rods. Mainly pursue panfish, walleye/saugeye, and occasional bass and catfish. I've used Daiwa reels for over 40 years. Prior to St. Croix I fished Berkley rods. Never an issue with any of m y choices but do enjoy my st. croix's. I also use St. Croix premier ice rods, a 28" light and 30" medium. Enjoyed your article and you night say you got a REAL REEL bargain on your Triumph combo. tight lines.

I have only St. Croix & Diawa best made. I prefer a MH-F for my jig pitching and Diawa Elite H-F for skipping jigs. I'm now trying the St. Croix "Victory" Grunt. The Bass-X is OK but it's a little heavy. Nice Video and Good Luck.

Thanks for the great review. I am going to be getting one of these for Christmas I think. Had been an UglyStik devotee for last 20 years but stepping the game up a little for next season. I am hard on equipment as I am a wet wader or rock hopper on rivers, so been hesitant as I heard St Croix’s were prone to breakage.

Only if you abuse them I’ve broken a few on a few larger pike I had a premier 6-6 Medium fast and snapped the tip on the fight was in a bass tournament and caught a pike on whitewater lake in Wisconsin. St croix has awesome customer service if something happens to it. I’ve never had an issue with them taking care of me. Been a St croix guy for about 7 years now. I believe you get what you pay for most of the time.

I have two st croix and two ugly sticks. Croix are heavy power and medium for musky, pike, bass etc. Ugly sticks are heavy and light both bobber setups for catfish and panfish. I caught a 15 lb cat on the smaller ugly stick lol things a beast

Those are all good rods I have heard of most of them I can not wait for it to warm up here in Illinois still too cold for the water to get things going around here besides on the warm water treatment plant discharge in the forest preserve here locally. I have not yet tried the need edge rods by Gary Loomis his new company I would love to see what those would be all about. I think I liked the rods by g Loomis better when Gary was running the show and now they are together with Shimano rods and such. Shimano is good too but I think Shimano needs to stay with what they do well and that's building reels and gears on bikes.

Mojo Bass line has the SCIII blank. Which even St Croix says is a lot better than the Bass X SCII blank. Spend the money which is about $20, and get the Mojo Bass. I have a casting 7' 1" MH F and it is awesome. I put a Daiwa Tatula CT reel on it and it is awesome as well. I am hoping to get a Mojo Bass spinning rod this Black Friday. If the sales are right.

Yeah that is true I always try to catch a great deal at one of my local fishing flea markets or at the bass pro shop rod and reel trade in event that offers a few dollars off on items reels and rods. I fish spinning gear most of the time so wast sure how much of a difference it would make I have been eying that 7-1 rod honestly along with a diawa tatula ct. I like Diawa or Shimano reels for bait casting. Spiniing I have all kids of reels I have pfluegers shimano and daiwa all have their plus and minus on them. Thanks for the suggestion. Let me know how your sale went. Did you get a great deal ?

@@niuams2 Merry Christmas. I just found your response. Sorry about that. I got a great deal. Got a Mojo Bass spinning rod for $111. Regularly $140.I got the 6'9" medium. extra fast. If I had tried it I think I would have gone with the medium light. The medium is very stiff. But it still cast great and feels sensitive. Winter has hit so I only got it out twice and haven't really been able to try it out. I did hook into a huge something in a small pond near me. I had my Daiwa Regal 2000 size. I had kept tightening the drag down and went as far as I dared and that fish just went wherever it wanted to. The rod did handle it great. I thought my drag had broken or something. As that fish just went wherever. But I ended up losing it. The hook must have pulled out. The line did not break. Which I am surprised as I had just 6-pound test. I tried the drag after I lost it. I had a hard time pulling the line out. So the drag was fine. Must have been a big catfish is my guess. After I got the Regla I had wished I had gotten the 2500 instead. More drag and such. I'll probably save for one and use the 2000 for a light setup. I have always been a Daiwa fan. But weirdly, I have owned more Shimanos. But there's something about the Daiwa's I like. And all those Shimanos are old and ready to be replaced. So I got the Regal. So I keep looking at them for the ones I want down the road. But I am thinking of getting a Mitchel 310 for an ultralight reel. I have a bunch of old Mitchels as my dad was a huge Mitchel fan after he came back from WWII when he found them in France like so many servicemen did. Have you tried a Mitchel 310?

You need to seal that cork for longer lasting.

Brian what would you recommend for sealing the cork I have never heard of doing this on a rod and I've been fishing since I was like 3 years old. What product would you recommend? This sounds interesting.

Thanks for the cool report. I have a couple St. Croix rods (Avid and Mojo inshore), but am looking to get my hands on a Legend Tournament Inshore Rod this Xmas. I also like Penn Carnage rods, and Ugly Stik GX2s...they are nice rods for the money. Cheers.
