Thank you, Canon. I feel blessed to have received the Signature Set of 4 books by St. Francis de Sales in time for my Lenten reading and meditation. I want to learn of the virtue he teaches and how he teaches the virtues. Being a person who has been chronically ill for years, I am reading his writing on illness and death. I am looking for holier ways to go through this process in a manner that brings me closer to God. My years growing up were filled with severe abuse and it has always amazed me that I was able to forgive quickly-maybe because I was a child, but I want to be able to complete my life with this same forgiveness and overwhelming sense of gratitude I have to God. For me it will provide reinforcement to the manner in which I hope to continue approaching all areas of the Catholic life. My greatest fear is not maintaining the virtue and grace of final perseverance.

Interesting point about one's moral occupation not being a distraction from God as only sin seperates us from God. @9:10.

Your "talking heads" that act like political pundits are doing what they know to do which is speak out. If our Priests, Bishops and Cardinals spoke up our educated laymen wouldn't need to do so. They are doing nothing wrong. They call out what would otherwise be left omitted.

This is presumptuous and supposes that it is the place of educated laymen to “speak out” against… whom? The Church? Never. There is a particular method of expressing opinion according to one’s station. If the so-called “educated” have legitimate concern then it is their station to express that concern privately to their superiors and accept the discernment and judgement of their bishops with docility. It is not the place or right of those to scandalously and openly defy their superiors in the Church under the guise of piety, while simultaneously disobeying the proper disposition and way of expressing concern. Doing so exposes this false piety for what it truly is; that is pride. The Church is not the audience for talking heads and political pundits to “do what they know to do.” The Church is not subject to political speculation. It is not on equal footing with political institutions. It is politics and punditry that is to be subject to the authority of Holy Mother Church.
