A great year in League. Good to see Norths and big winger Mick Healey scoring a cracker.

That St George vs Norths match was one of a batch of double header matches during the ANZAC Day long weekend in 1977. 3 sets of double header matches were played over 3 days on Friday, Saturday & Sunday all at the SCG, on the ANZAC Day long weekend in 1977. The following year in 1978 there were 2 sets of triple header matches over 2 days over the ANZAC Day weekend at the SCG as well.

They were the first Magic Rounds and were called a Leagueathon

It is a shame the Leagathon concept didn't last on the yearly calendar . Yep on this double header on Sunday, 24th April, 1977 at the SCG , 21,051 fans turned out to watch Parramatta Eels 18 depose the Western Suburbs Magpies 10 . Don McKinnon made his First Grade debut for North Sydney on this day when the Bears played St George for a Dragons victory 25-8
