I basically grew up there. My family lives in South Georgia, but my parents bought a lot on the island before the first bridge was built. We had one of the first small cabins there. We would spend weeks at a time there during the summers and fall. So much has changed. I have witnessed virtually every change since then.

A dear friend from Atlanta spoke in hushed tones about SGI. We visited her on our way to Disney World, 24 years ago. She recommended it as what could be our vacation for many years coming if we gave it a try. She spoke of many in GA who purchased lots, the unique beach houses, the beauty of the island. Our first visit had us planning our trips with glee for the future. We LOVE the river floats, fishing trips, shelling, the State Park. She was right. It's my dream vacation! She's sadly passed, but I'll forever be in her debt for allowing me to know of SGI. Rent has become too costly for us now, but we will cherish this place forever 💕

Definitely like Everglades City in many ways. I haven't been there in almost 40 years, but have fond memories of road trips out there while a FSU student. Even caught decent surf out there one trip. Beautiful and very isolated place.

The furthest beach north I've seen year round palm trees is Virginia Beach.Maine Beaches are awesome during the summer.

I don't know why, but this island seems so upper east coastline to me. It doesn't seem like the "south" as for the housing. The only things "southern" about it is the palm trees. LOL

I’ve been researching hard too cuz my fam booked a trip there this summer. I hate to be the negative one, but this place looks shittyyy compared to other beaches. Restaurants look trash af and water looks swampy. Disappointed in my fam rn. Had to say it.

I’m down here right now. Honestly I don’t get what everyone is raving about. This place sucks. Barely any restaurants, absolutely nothing todo. Honestly we will be leaving early and will not be coming back
