Barely 2 minutes long and yet this is a beautiful story about Hilda. And with the visuals of Whitby Abbey I was speechless by the impressive architecture. Castle ruins like Whitby are an impressive monument to the Anglosaxon culture. This one especially so imo.

Whitby is a beautiful place to visit. I have been there 3 times. It has so many different places to visit.. Whitby Abbey, Caption Cook museum, jet jewelery. It is situated right near the beautiful North Sea

A fever that lasted six years?! Good grief! What kind of fever lasts for 6 years?

Aye, that was the first question that came to my mind as well. No doubt the people at that time suspected a supernatural cause.

The effects I glandular fever can last longer and there are always metaphysical causes contributing.

I just read in wikipedia an example of the insanity of war that is related to this abbey. In 1914 the german battleships Van der Tran Derfflinger shelled the abbey for about ten minutes though their actual intended target was a nearby coast guard station.

What did she do from age13-33? Marry? children? widowed?

The only reason we know her story is because of Bede. And he doesn’t tell us that part. 😉

Being that she was a nun, she would have remained a virgin and maintained a life of prayer and other good works.
