Thank you. I am struggling to reconcile this message and what happened in 70 C.E. If you read the historical accounts it was one of the most horrific things I can imagine. This is the divine judgement that we fear. I look at the flood and I look at the judgements against Israel at the hands of Babylon etc. I look at the blood shed when Israel annihilated men women and children even the animals when entering the promised land. This is fear inspiring. How do I reconcile these fearful judgements with the Gospel and the coming lake of fire and not fear?

@@nikloff1815 Hi! Did you that when Jesus said "eternal punishment" he actually said "an age of correction" but was translated to eternal punishment. I believe the Bible is God breathed, but it wasn't written in English. We must reevaluate our view of who God is because Jesus said no one had seen God until Jesus showed up. See means perceived. No one had gotten God right until Jesus showed up. We aren't told to just study the word, we are told to rightly divided it. A mix of who God really is, and who people thought he was. The only mention of lake of fire is in revelation, a book full of symbolism that needs to be carefully interpreted with the whole of scripture and the revelation of the Father that Jesus showed us. Think about this, when Jesus said the worms never die and fire is never quenched, he was quoting Isaiah, talking about dead bodies, not living people. There's much more to be said about this but I felt like I should share that much so far. Thank you!

It's so interesting how a lot of us or a majority of us always think of God when he speaks as an audible voice coming from the outside. But how does he speak? Especially I should say when we come to knowledge of him when he reveals himself to us. The voice is a still small voice coming from inside of us. It just comes to show how separate from God we believe we are.

We look to Jesus as he is the exact likeness of his Father in the Spirit. The law and the prophets are complete in Jesus. God as portrayed in the Old Testament is man's fallen mindset making God in his image, instead of the God of Love.

@@michaelthompson5141 the revelation of God in the OT is from God. He has wrath on sin but also is merciful and patient. God is a God of love in the OT just as he is in the NT but eternal life is by faith.

Most of what he says is liberating and shows everything hangs on Jesus. The great weight of legalism is lifted when we understand the Gospel this way. I understand that salvation is God's initiative and faith is just an instrument to receive what Jesus offers. But I am disturbed by his minimising sin. That's what I hear, even though he doesn't say it. Sin is rebellion against a loving Father and it breaks His heart. Sin does seperate us from God (Isaiah 59:2 and many verses) His justice and love meets on the cross, painful to the Triune God. The light of the Gospel is perceived only through the cross.

He isnʼt minimizing sin. Alienation from God, walking in darkness and believing the lie of separation is what leads to what Paul calls the “works of the flesh”, bad behaviour is the fruit of alienation.
