Shad, trolling for American Shad In the St. Johns River using shad darts and small spoons. On this day the shad were fussy they only hit a pink shad dart, I tried other colors but no luck they were all caught on that pink jig. We had a nice day and had a lot of fun catching the Shad and caught enough to do a Catch and Cook making Shad Fish Cakes. #anericanshad #trollingforshad #fishingforshad

Those are really pretty fish. We catch them occasionally while trolling for crappie but have never targeted them. The fish cakes looked amazing!

Thanks, there are different species of shad the ones we were catching are American Shad they spend most of their life in saltwater. George Washington was a commercial Shad fisherman and Eisenhower served American Shad in the White House. A lot of people get them mixed up with those stinky shad that are in the river and lakes year round. Thanks again for Watching our videos

Where did you get that incredible fish “Dutch oven” broiler fish pan? Maybe advertise it with a code for the manufacturer. That is an an amazing pan.

Hoping you can solve something for me. Back in the late 60's my grandmother made these I don't know what's. She said they were fish chips. Sliced the fish across the body and then fried the pieces. I believe that they still had the bone in them but the bones were soft. Never had them after that. Does any of this sound familiar? I would love to know the type of fish it was. Shad keeps coming to mind but I'm clueless on this.

We cook shad like that here in eastern NC. Cut them like you described about 3/4" thick and coat with flour. Salt and pepper to taste, then deep fry in oil until crispy. I haven't heard it called chips but it sounds like the same thing.

Would slow cooking most fish soften the bones making them eatable?
@TheOldCoupleOutdoors
@TheOldCoupleOutdoors 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so, Shad bones are thin and I believe that's why they soften easier. Thanks for Watching

Very small fish like anchovies, sardines or even small herring, you can eat the bones depending on how you cook them. Using a pressure cooker will make the bones soft enough to digest
