Zach, thanks so much for your plug for the hard working merchants in St. Maarten. I love this island. We were there in 2019, so a little bit before COVID but after the devastation of Irma, and it was sad to see that it was just not the same. There was not a lot of anything going on at all then! CruisePlum is a great place to find low rates for solo cruisers. I would recommend booking directly through the cruise line once you find a cruise you like. Most require you to pay a deposit up front and then full payment is required within a couple months of sailing.

I last visited St. Maarten back in 2000 -- stayed at Divi Little Bay in a timeshare 2 BR unit. We loved both the Dutch and French side (2000 was our 3rd visit to the Island). Then, we booked 2017 and luckily, took out travel insurance. Well, Hurricane Irma struck in 2017 and you know the rest of the story. Haven't been back since and miss seeing the two sides. We are planning a return visit for late April 2024 so we'll see what happens. Nothing booked yet, but airlines aren't cooperating with schedules until we fly out of MIA, which isn't as easy for us. Fingers crossed no hurricane ruins our future plans.

My wife and I almost built a house in St Maarten in 2007. Then the real estate crash of 2008 stopped us. We have always considered St Maarten our second home. We cried when Irma hit the island. We pray for their continued rebuilding.

I have only been there once, from Carnival Valor when she was a new ship, February 2006. We got a day pass to Divi Little Bay Beach Resort, on the Dutch Side, not far from the port. It was beautiful. Never made it anywhere near Maho Beach, never knew it was a thing. Would go back again if I find another cruise that does both Sint Maarten and Saint Thomas again. Love the idea of them making it a jump off point, easier access to the Southern Caribbean. Brilliant, I'll definitely book a Royal from there!

Lot of folks get hung up on Maho Beach, which is cool and all, but the entire island is beautiful and must be explored. Have a great time!

It’s almost a mile past metal fences to get to the Snorkle boats… not quite as far to buses… taxis don’t like to take us on such a short trip. Non of these islands are very lush or beautiful. The locals charge as much as the Americans can pay… Europeans seem more willing to pay high rates to see ruble & no wild beauty or landscapes

They said once hurricane Irma passed wednesday september 6 2017 around 10am st martin was a lawless land until sunday 12 pm the same week, thats when the french swat police and the army started landing from France.
