I really admire (envy!) your skill, Dr Williams, but it's a pity you walked past Radio City Music Hall. This piece would have been right at home on their massive theatre organ.
@jaysonbryant83524 жыл бұрын
Hello Dr. Williams! Here in Oklahoma City, at our Oklahoma museum of natural history we have the restored Kilgen theatre pipe organ from one of our local radio stations, and civic halls, and the instrument is glorious! All that its four manuals at eighteen ranks need is for you to come play it for one of the quarterly events or concerts sponsored by the history center. I do hope that will happen! You are the greatest!

Well chosen and well played, Carol. Had you played, say, Bach's great Bmin Prelude and Fugue, my guess is that many of the casual visitors who walked in off the street, would have made haste to get back to the street, ignoring the donation box in the process.

American organs are especially good ad one certain thing: being big. Cavaille-coll would have built an organ in that church which would be less than half as big as this one and would sound twice as good.

That is true, but this organ is of a symphonic style, not the Romantic French
@michaelbell88344 жыл бұрын
@@patmeaden It's definitely a late 20's symphonic instrument, however it is voiced in a very French way rather than in an English style such as Ernest Skinner.
@kilgenbuff4 жыл бұрын
@Contre Viole 32 This organ has been made over many times. That is why it does not sound very much like any other Kilgen organ. The sound now is due mostly to the Paragallo Organ Company that maintains it. Kilgen organs were never harsh, always round and warm. This is not the organ that Pietro Yon played.

Bravo! The irony of it all... Absolutely great playing against the Reverend backdrop of St. Patrick's Cathedral! Forget the naysayers' opinions...I can only imagine that this will be like heaven...happy people being so overjoyed about being there along with others who are unhappy for the very same reason! Good on ya'! Personally, I think the William Tell Overture would be a great postlude liturgical music if there were any able bodied organist willing to play it. And, of course, there will be critics...so it goes.

While it’s an unconventional cathedral organ choice, remember it IS a classical music composition,originally an Opera overture by Rossini; it had nothing to do with “The Lone Ranger “, until the American cinema adopted it for a less-than-noble use.

Reminds me a bit of Diane Bish's style; speed at all costs. I've heard the good Doctor play in San Diego and was in heaven. Perhaps the hurry-up of New York City temporarily affected (afflicted?) her.

There are a great many finer organs in NYC than this instrument. Christopher Mirocco, I've been on the bench of the original and new console. Mechanical improvements and some tonal work but it's not one of my favorite instruments in town. Arthur Dale. It's articulation that is required. I remember hearing Neil Robinson and St. John's playing ridiculously fast but every note was percieved as well asl every phrase resolution. Lovely memory

*MARCH OF THE SWISS SOLDIERS - "GUILLAUME TELL"* (Gioachino Antonio Rossini) Edition Eugène-Théodore Troupenas, SACEM Rossini originally composed this portion of the opera overture as an advance brief on the Act IV battle, where Swiss patriots converge on a point to intercept incoming Austrian cavalry after the sniping of prefect Albrecht Geßler, who was enroute to arrest Tell.
