Gorgeous! I even like this video better than the one of the performance (w/all the glitz, lights, & audience noise).....just this beautiful skater soulfully connecting with his music. He's as exciting as he was during his 'competition' days and actually seems to be maturing and growing even more as an artist. So incredible to watch. Thanks for posting this video so that those of us from around the world can continue to watch a skater/dancer/artist we have admired for so many years.

You're right. I used wrong word ("seems"). Stephane is indeed growing as an artist and performer. It was indeed evident in the earliest videos I saw of him skating. You're right: some people are just born with an innate talent; and true artists never stop growing. He's one of those rare people, and why I find him so exciting and intriguing to watch. Thank goodness for YT, since there are no TV broadcasts of his skating in the USA. He is so special!

He doesn't "seem" to be growing and maturing. He has, still is, and will in the future. He's really born a performer and an artist. You can't tell an artist to stop growing. It's in their blood.

One more thing that I remember him saying is that he didn't want to fight so hard for 4 more years and probably damage his health and loose his joy for skating as a result. Quite wise of him, I'd say.

He retired from competitive figure skating after 2010 Olympics, where he finished 4th. He was the the 2006 Olympics silver medalist.

Stephane said in an interview quite a few years ago that, after several surgeries on both his knees, he wasn't comfortable enough to "compete" at the highest level he wanted, and, interestingly, that his knee problems (which he had since about 2003) hurt more when he did spins than when he did jumps. Plus, he gets to explore his creative ideas more with his "professional" performances. I haven't read that he has any plans to retire; he's still creating new, innovative programs; and he's only 28

It's not interesting - he has apparently had problems with the anterior cruciate ligaments of the knee and thus it hurts when spinning, cos they get strained then. The cartilage/meniscus is fine, so no problems with jumps

That was when he stopped competing in 2008. After his return in season 2009/2010 he said that his health was okay now, and he could have continued to compete if he wanted, but that he just feels that he's accomplished everything that he wanted in competitive skating (well, except Olympic gold), and now he wants to explore a different (artistic) side of figure skating. Later he also said that it had always been his plan and intention to compete until 2010 Olympics, and no further.
